The Lords Portion pt. 3. In concluding this segment of the Lords portion I wanted to bring out the following three point: The effects of trickery can be long lasting and often times the ending is usually tragic. There are no short cuts in God. Either you do things his way or suffer the consequences later. The misfortunate circumstances fell upon Esau, I believe, because he didn't esteem his birthright. Nevertheless, I'm surprise to see deception prospering. The next point will draw your attention to the power of words. Isaac spoke out of his mouth the things he wanted to happen for his son Jacob (whom he thought was Esau). In the story we see that he said some pretty profound things concerning this boys future. "...God give you of the dew of heaven and the fatness of the earth and plenty of corn and wine..." verse 29 "let people serve you and nations bow down to you be lord over your brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to you cursed be every one that curse you, and blessed be he that bless you." And finally, in talking about the Lords Portion I want you to know that Esau did receive a small blessing. His father did bless him with the dew of the heavens and the fatness of the ground, but he said, "you will live by the sward." Meaning, you are going to be a man of war; you will have to fight...that sounds like labor to me! Their character, very self-confident, shrewd , and proud.
