Readings in Lesbian & Bisexual Women's Fiction
As 2010 is winding down, I was considering changes to the format of "Readings in Lesbian & Bisexual Women's Fiction." To that end, I posted a survey and analyzed feedback. Now I'm tweaking things for the 2011 shows.

I've already scheduled a full list of guests through June.

Then last week I receive an email from Blog Talk Radio management that free accounts will be limited to half hour shows once a day. All right. What to do?

I considered going down to a half-hour format. But I'd gone to an hour format because the half-hour format was seriously cramping the conversations with the authors, and with the audience.

I considered moving to another hosting service, but after investigating several, I found none of them offered a mix of features allowing for live, interactive broadcasts, unlimited audience potential, and iTunes/mp3 archival.

I sent an email to the BTR management and asked them if a less frequent program like mine could have a smaller pay-as-you-go rate than the whopping $299 per year for a paid account. No answer.

So I sent an email to listeners, explained the choices, and ask for input. Many people said they would consider donating if I upgraded. Others suggested more hosting services to look into. I even talked with other LGBT BlogTalkRadio shows about collaborating on a single "station", just all of us picking different nights for our shows, and splitting the cost of the account. No one at all took me up on that.

I figured maybe I'd just put up a PayPal donate button and limp along with $5 donations. Someone suggested I try Kickstarter and try to get the investment up front. Kickstarter said my project was "not of the type they could support." So I put out a "hat in hand" email. What happened next was nothing short of amazing.

In six hours -- SIX HOURS -- I had more than I needed to get the one year upgraded subscription. All of 2011 is now paid. And half of 2012 is also now covered.

For 2011 "Readings in Lesbian & Bisexual Women's Fiction" will be coming to you with the following sponsors:
Rosa Moran, Lynne Pierce, Meg Leigh, Cheri Crystal, Andi Holmes, Linda North,
Fran Heckrotte, Joan Opyr, CL Hart, Jae, Erica Lawson, Lois Cloarec Hart, and
Black Car Publishing.
Every one of those links goes to these authors' or publishers' websites or the fan's Twitter or Facebook page, so please, please do patronize them, support them, thank them. The way they have supported "Readings" shows me how amazing this community is.

I will not squander that support. I will do everything in my power to make "Readings in Lesbian & Bisexual Women's Fiction" THE place to hear authors talk deeply about the creation of the fiction you love to read. Feel free to spread the word.

May 2011 wrap all of us in happiness, health, and the humbling comfort of the community in which we live.

Thank you. All of you.
