Raven is currently battling a rare form of cancer and has been a strong advocate for more awareness on Epithelioid Angiosarcoma. Raven underwent a radical Mastectomy with extra wide margins in October of 2011 (Epithelioid Angiosarcoma was found in biopsy samples from both breasts). The Angiosarcoma was a direct result of the radiation she did prior for her first bout with breast cancer. The pathology report blindsided Raven and her family when it returned with findings of not one, but two cancers inside the breast tissue. Her primary Breast Cancer from 2001 had also returned as well (Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma). Although Raven was told to get her affairs in order by other hospitals, and various physicians who reviewed her case, she has chosen to fight instead. Her long time Oncologist started her off on chemo infusions of Abraxane and Avastin, which helped to beat the Angiosarcoma back to some degree, but Raven was unable to handle the treatments any longer. She became very ill, and her Oncologist realized that she needed a miracle at this juncture. She received that miracle in the form of a Leukemia drug called Gleevec. Although it was off label for the cancer Raven has, her Oncologist ran a C-Kit, which was highly positive and highly reactive with her Angiosarcoma and the drug Gleevec (his hunch paid off). Raven is not out of the woods by any means, but many of her masses are gone now due to this drug, She was not expected to make it this long, but she is still alive......still here. Proof positive that only God knows when it is our time to die. Raven is fighting hard to beat this. Her show is on hiatus until further notice as a result. Embrace each day and celebrate life!
