Call in to speak with the host
Angela Bassett may have made her name playing dramatic figures like Betty Shabazz and Rosa Parks, but don’t think her range stops there. “I just finished Black Nativity. I shot that in Harlem, with Kasi Lemmons, who wrote and directed it based on Langston Hughes’ play—who inspired me as a poet when I was 15,” she tells Saturdays host Joy Keys of the upcoming flick co-starring Oscar winners Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson. “And it’s a musical, so I get to stretch myself in another direction. This time, I’ll be singing!” As for future roles, Angela adds: “I would love to be cast in a comedy.”
It's good to talk.
