On today's date, May 31st, in 1921 hundreds of people in Tulsa, Oklahoma were murdered, their homes and businesses burned and thousands rounded up and placed in ' holding areas ', or more correctly prison camps. It is an event that included the only time in U.S. history that the military dropped bombs on civilians. And in the aftermath, the survivors having to live through an Oklahoma winter in tents, if they were fortunate. You would think that something this terrible would be told and retold in history classes to inform future generations so that this type of atrocity is not repeated and to allow healing to take place. However, 93 years later the issue is still being debated, avoided and in some cases outright denied to the point of absurdity.
