The trial and subsequent acquittal of George Zimmerman has created a great deal of controversy and some hard feelings across the board and especially in the Black community. The overall sense from this verdict is that people were more hurt than angry, hurt that in a case that seemed such an obvious abuse of life the suspected perpetrator could go free. Hurt that another Black child was gunned down and that laws are consistently being enacted that make it easier for this type of thing to happen and to provide sanctuary for those who commit these crimes. However, in this dark time a light is beginning to shine through. The people are beginning to use a tool that has always been available, they are exercising their freedom of choice and choosing to use their economic power, the only power a capitalistic society respects, to express how they feel. Could it be that the sleeping giant is waking up?  Will this feeling of cooperation last or will it fade once people go back to their daily lives?  Join us this Sunday, July 21 from 3p-5p CDT for Power To The People, on Rap Sessions Radio.
