Kids raising kids at the Texas State 4-H Goat Judging Contest

Interestingly enough according to Gail Bowman author of “Raising Meat Goats for Profit” about 63% of the red meat consumed worldwide is GOAT and the demand continues to grow here in the US due to an increasing population of Middle Eastern, Asian, Latin American, Caribbean and African immigrants. Demand has become so high that US producers are having a difficult time keeping up. The 4-H organization gives rural youth between 9 to 19 years old the opportunity learn at an early age the value of the industry testing their knowledge and skill evaluating live animals. The annual Texas State 4-H Goat Judging contest at PVAMU will help participants gain life skills that will last forever through an activity as simple as raising an animal such as goat.
