At the start of the 1990s, she left her job as a corporate manager to become an entrepreneur. By the mid-90s, she'd focused on technical training, bridging her backgrounds in computer science, neuropsychology, and writing. As big clients started looking for single-vendor solutions, she created a consortium of trainers and developers by providing contract management through her company. As individual contracts became scarce, this background income supported her while she retrained as an Awakening Coach. Karen has shifted from a focus on computer technology itself during her corporate manager days, to a focus on how people learn and what they need to be successful with that technology during her trainer days, to what brings success and fulfillment for people in life itself. No more leaving our full selves at the door when we go to work! Now she works with people beyond the limits of the mind to access the conscious vision just waiting to emerge through their life, and live that vision full-out. You can find more information about Karen's work at www.iam-awakening.com, or her new special interest group at www.karenfritz.com. 00:58:00PushtheResetButton!noKaren Fritz,Conscious Vision,Awakening Coach,Midlife Reinvention,Push the Reset ButtonThere is actually a thread of evolution as Karen has successfully shifted careers with the changing economic environment. Hernandez: The Man Who Helps "The Uncomfortable" Become Comfortable with Social MediaIn the past few years, Carlos R. Hernandez who studied Civil Engineering at Stanford, has reinvented himself as a consultant specializing in “social media for the uncomfortable.” Over the last two years he gave 100 speeches. Now he works with individual clients as well as companies. This new direction came about soon after he left his old job and started volunteering at GraceWorks, a San Francisco career-networking organization. Hernandez was lucky: His buyout package included three months of training and counseling with an outplacement firm. “A lot of the folks I counseled at GraceWorks didn’t have the benefit of professional help — they were just kicked out, gone,” he says. He figured that he could help them the most by teaching them what he had learned in his own outplacement sessions. “I learned along the way that all I needed to do was be one day smarter than someone else my age.” Many of the people I talk to have discovered some form of teaching to be a powerful way of networking, learning, and growing. “It’s less important to figure out your ultimate path,” Hernandez adds, “than how to get through the process of figuring out your path.” When I ask him if he finds this uncertainty terrifying, he says: “That’s the cool part. I have no idea where anything’s going to lead — I find that very appealing.” He mentions that he just wrote two chapters of a book after having been asked to contribute by someone he met on Twitter. Never would the old Hernandez have thought he could help write a book. Back then, nobody would have invited him to.01:00:00PushtheResetButton!noCarlos R Hernandez,Social Media for the Uncomfortable,Social Media,Midlife Reinvention,Push the Reset ButtonIn the past few years, Carlos R. The story begins with Ann blowing out the candles on her 60th birthday cake, announcing to her friends and family that she’s ready to leave her home of Austin, Texas and move to New York City. And, so begins the journey. Ann kept a journal of her adventure, from flying out of Austin, to landing in NY for 10 days, to deciding to move, actually moving and then of her first two-and-a-half years in the Big Apple. It’s a story filled with honesty, humor, the realities of dating at this age, anxiety about “surviving in the Big Apple,” physical concerns, loss, a few details from the past, and finally, the triumph of reinvention success. In August of 2009, Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer and spent the last 8 months having two surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation. She blogged the whole way through, wrote her reinvention workbook during this time, and continued to inspire people with her story. Now Bobbye is showing others how writing can lead them on their own life vision quests, not only to capture the vision but to manifest it in the outer world. Writing is both vocation and avocation for the Write Synergies Guru as she explains how to use a writing process to become your own guru. In a wide-ranging conversation, we’ll discuss what 6.1 means, why the Sanskrit Factor plays a role, how Interdisciplinary Arts make a difference, and the importance of going deep -- especially in listening, breathing, and loving. -- Bobbye Middendorf, an award-winning writer and communications professional, worked in marketing and book publishing for nearly 20 years. Since reinventing herself in a post-corporate role after age 40, she enthusiastically embraces the process of life reset using curiosity, learning, writing, and a lifelong interdisciplinary approach to fuel the journey. She is working on a book, Write Synergies: Creating the Map for Your Journey, to help people live and create in a mode of “greater than the sum of the parts,” a crucial missing piece for the midlife reset. As she develops the book, she markets and blogs at http://www.writesynergiescopywriting.com where her free writing and meditation guide, The Write Synergies Path to Owning Your Greatness, is available. She mentors her clients -- visionary writers, authors, creators, publishers, and heart-based entrepreneurs with a mission to heal -- on the inner journey to tap their vision, greatness and contribution in words then bring it out into the world. She listens and writes the heart of their projects into expression -- so they can own their gifts and express the greatness of their visions. 01:00:00PushtheResetButton!noBobbye Middendorf, communications,Write Synergies,Midlife Reinvention,Push the Reset ButtonWriting has been the through line to an entire life of reinvention and reset. But even he was surprised at getting his first book deal in just four days after logging on to Twitter for the first time. At age 50, George loves the challenge of starting this new career as an author - in fact he's just signed the deal for his second book. "You often hear people say they wish they were 20 again. I think the key is to keep what was good about your twenty-something outlook, combine it with your other 30 years of experience, and create an even more exciting life for yourself." A big believer in embracing change, George feels more comfortable with change now than he did when he was younger, because he knows himself better, knows what he wants, and has the years of experience to know how to use that change. "And one thing experience has taught me is how to balance my life better to get more enjoyment out of all aspects of it. When I was young, I focused too much on my work. Now I'm getting more out of my work because I focus more on family and other interests and everything has a place in my life." 01:00:00PushtheResetButton!noGeorge Plumley, book deals, author,Midlife Reinvention,Push the Reset ButtonGeorge Plumley is no stranger to change, having worked in web development for over 15 years. That’s what happened to Ginny Kleman Sheppard in 1996 when, at age 41, she sent her only child to kindergarten (certainly a readjustment for every mother) … was promoted to a high-level corporate position that required two extra hours of commuting each day … watched her husband take a new job as dean of an art school in another state (he moved almost 400 miles away, ahead of the family) … made the tough decision to pull up roots, leave her home and her own successful job, take her child out of school and relocate to join her spouse … and suddenly -- after almost 20 years in a dynamic career -- found herself as a stay-at-home-mom in a community she had never even visited. How did Ginny adjust to all these life changes, especially in her 40’s? What did she learn as she reevaluated her career goals and started to look for new jobs in a different locale? How did she re-invent herself, discover new skills, and ultimately find the most satisfying, enjoyable and lucrative career she could ever have? How has her age, maturity and career experience worked to her advantage? Why does she say this whole journey, and running a home office, benefited her family life in myriad ways?
