Mental illness has a stigma. People think that if someone has a mental illness, they can't hold down a job, own a home, raise a family.  Many people think mental health hospitals are filled with people bound in white coats unable to leave their room. Both points are incorrect.  Many people who have mental illness live fully functioning lives. Like most things, it all depends on the goals and dreams of the person with the illness.

On Friday, May 13, noon PT/3 p.m. ET/8 p.m. UK, Purpose Talk Radio host Cindy Freeman and her guest Tanina DeGrave want to change shate what is possible in spite of mental illness. Tanina is a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College in Milwaukee, Wiscsonsin.  She is 35 years old and and has been married for eight years. She says it has been the best years of her life. When she was in her early 20s she attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to persue a degree in music education.  However, when she became sick, and didn't yet know her purpose, she became lost and did not return to school until years later.

The history of Tanina discovering her purpose involves her health, specifically her mental health.  She was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder when she was 19, and with ADHD at 30.  She wants other people to realize that just because they have had a mental illness diagnosis, they can still live a typical life, just like a person with another kind of organ illness.  She also wants other people who do not have said mental illness to realize that people around them who do, are normal people.
