The apostle Paul said "For me to live is Christ and to die is gain". He seemed ready to meet his savior and Lord. Yet why is it that we find it very difficult to die to the self-life and live for Christ here on earth? This afterall is where it counts the most right? Righteous living before a Holy God and shining our lights before a lost and dying world. It's really a very difficult and hard teaching isn't it. That the God we seek to serve is asking us to deny ourselves, take up His cross and follow Him. And for each of  us that one thing or attitude we struggle with can be the very thing we must place 10 feet under to live a full life in Christ. You know what it is for you, perhaps its selfishness, greed, lust, ography, idolatry, hatred, deceitful desires, sexual immorality just to name a few. So yes in crucifying the flesh with its lust and passions we once gave our lives to Christ in full repentance perhaps been buried in baptism and ressurected with Him into newness of life.....and then comes a word found in Colossians 3:5 which says "put to death therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed which is idolatry. Lord please always remind me when I'm hostile towards you and living outside your will for me. May the power of your Holy Spirit break all chains of sin that seeks to choke my life in you. Let's face it, when was the last time you wronged a close friend or family member, do you find it easy to ask for forgiveness or do you hold off waiting on them to respond? Its much easier to love when things are going well but the true test of any relationship comes when were going through great battles and difficulties. This afterall really shows how deep your love and devotion really goes. And so it shows areas we need to work on and often reveals sin in our lives. Every follower of Christ needs Love, Forgiveness and Restoration and yes.....freedom from the chains of an unforgiving heart. Is God knocking on the door of your heart to either forgive or ask for it yourself? Are you harboring resentment or bitterness towards someone and its eating you up inside? If there is one thing I take away from my father spending nearly 25 yrs in the Army, that would be to never ever give in or give up. Always hold your head up high and march forward. Another thing thats clear to me is that as soldiers of Christ we will at times become weary and heavy burdened, we will veer off course some, will be tempted to quit the fight....whatever that may be for you. Some are continually being harrassed by those old demons of the past, rendering you useless and ineffective for the Kingdom of God. But praise be to God for his encouragement offered in his word. So when your feeling weak and faint  1 John 4:4 reminds us of this "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world". Now, you may have taken a beating from the difficulties and battles of this life with its fiery temptations and trials, finding yourself at a crossroad. Should I give up and quit or move forward in faith knowing that one day this battle on earth will soon be over. Prov 21:31 says The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD. Only through Christ ressurecting power can we overcome those battles with the flesh and the world. What does that look like close up. 2 Tim 4:7 seems to provide a few answers to  these questions. It says "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith". Can you say that today, that you have fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith? Well I to like you have to ask myself this all important question and must ask frequently so as to determine where I stand in Christ, am I slowing down in my zeal for Christ? How is my excitement and desire for God's Holy word? Am I telling others about my personal testimony and how I have come to know the Lord today? Am I on my knees daily fighting battles, confessing sin and while still marching forward for the cause of Christ? With so much at stake in the battle between good and evil, flesh vs. spirit we want to be able to say we didnt buckle to the pressure, that we were fully committed and went the distance in faith with our marriages, our children, those family members outside of Christ, our integrity, purity and through pain, temptation, and of course all those times you felt like throwing in the towel, but you didnt. You yourself can echo the same words of the apostle Paul in 2 Tim 4:7. Yet, there are times when many followers of Christ tend to forget this key truth. We sometimes unknowingly choose to be spiritually hungry and thirsty, but why is this? Why is it that our hearts and minds are lead astray so far off course that were willing sacrifice our relationship with Christ for that which cannot satisfy? Colossians 3:12 says, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority. Thirsting after ungodly relationships, materialism and the pleasures of this world will leave us feeling robbed and cheated of the real thing. And I must admit that I have gone through some difficulties, trials and temptations enough to know that I have no one else to blame but myself. Take a good look and examine the life of Joseph who pursued purity and righteousness and loved the Lord with all his heart, by running away from Potiphar’s wife. We must remind ourselves at times why were fighting for sexual purity. A couple of things come to my mind on this, one is that we are called to be sanctified, seperate, set apart. 1 Thess 4:3 says "It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality". Also Proverbs 23:36 says  My son, give me your heart and let your eyes keep to my ways. Fighting for sexual purity means we seek to hold fast to our integrity and identity with Christ. Its at a crucial and critical moment that as you find yourself in the cross roads to making the decision to give in to temptation or remain faithful to God where we experience him the most. So what are you dealing with or going through at this time? What will you choose to do? Or who will you choose to believe? It could be struggling with lust, engaging in sex before marriage, spending time alone with someone other than your spouse,  to look or not to look at ography, one is telling us a big lie while the other side is telling us the truth and calling us to holiness, purity, freedom and faithfulness to almighty God, and its often in that moment that the angels in heaven will either be rejoicing in our victory or shedding tears over our moment of weakness. You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.  We were bought with a price, and a costly one it was for all the sin of mankind. But its something about sexual sin that has a dangerous and disasterous effect to it. Simply put, its short term pleasure with long term consequences . This perhaps gives real meaning to the phrase "you reap what you sow".....this includes shame, guilt, pain and heart ache as well as a life time of regret. Truly a price we can't pay. The good news however is that Christ understands our struggle with the desires of the flesh and He loves us so much He seeks to save us from the bondage of sin. We must ask ourselves these and many other questions regarding sexual sin. Am I willing to lose my marriage with sexual sin? Am I ready to lose my family, friends to my own lustful cravings? How much am I willing to pay? And the master manipulator, Satan will never tell you the cost of this sin up front but he will be expecting you to pay in the end. And just because we don't feel like praising Him or thank he's not there doesn't really matter much, those feelings are up and down, cant trust those, but we can place our trust in an unmovable and unshakable God who will not flinch at your troubles, battles storms or trials, in fact he has allowed us to go through some of these just to show us he is Lord of all, and Lord of your life. By praising him in the chaos He also reveals more of himself to us and in the process deepens our relationship with Him. Perhaps its a lustful thought threatning to hijack your mind and emotions. Or its agraphic magazines, someone other than your spouse or just one drink wont hurt. Daily Satan whispers in our ears to indulge in our flesh for just a few minutes of pleasure, that most definitely will turn into pleasures of regret. We must ask ourselves what would happen if I give in to this temptation? What will I stand to lose? What are the consequences? Who will I hurt if I make this decision to feed my fleshly desires?
