    Date / Time:

DAY JOBS.. 14 YRS IN THE MAKING!!!!!!

I found all these in dusty boxes to show this radio show has been 14 yrs or more in the making! The following are my own personal job experiences, and let me know if it helps you:

Circa 1992: Interview at a funeral home.. so desperate I figure this place will always be hiring! I want this brownstone air-conditioned apt since we have only a wall unit all these  yrs and 'mother' suggests I get some $.  Already in 1992 interviewers were treating me like their therapist. The 'owner' talks bitterly on the phone to his wife in front of me as I balance an appication on my lap! What should I say to get this job? "I lost so many people before age 18, I'm well-acquainted with the industry"?

Like getting zipper caught in skin is the pain of these interviews, and worse still, the unemployment. Boyfriends who told me 'whatever you want' and offered to buy, constant compliments, sexiness, gallantry, artistry, and toughness.  I wanted to hold it and say 'thank you for giving me at least this in a tough, tough world". Too early girls. Golden flitting memories. I moved out at 17 and grew up way too fast.

JOBS AND OCD . The OCD is what really has you quitting jobs.. because you lie awake every night picking apart the office items, atmosphere, until you are so exhausted you can barely work the next day. You go through every outfit in your head to decide what to wear for the week. Sometimes I would get to an appt. and not be able to get out of the car. Couldn't walk through that door. Thank god this all ended after I turned age 22. Fear of going to work and blurting something out to managers. I planned looking at my watch, pictured it in my mind even in restless terrible dreams!  If it rained at lunchtime, I might decide to quit.  I saw the whole future in one moment and figured rain would not end.  Twisting my ankle and tearing the ligaments at lunchtime on marble steps, 1990. Can't quit because the woman was so nice to me, telling me she doesn't even KNOW the computer! And impressed with what I knew.  ALL I KEPT THINKING AFTER INJURING THAT ANKLE WAS 'I CAN'T LOSE THIS JOB'. So back to work I hobbled, several blocks with pain like electricity every time I stepped.

COLLEGE RADIO 1994: The girl whose name is probably Heather (all the names Iare interchangeable) is impressed that I have a full time job. The room is already sweltering in may and you wonder why the school is so cheap not to turn on A-C.
The other female students talk about an overdue paper which requires them to interview a state senator.. the other talks about her 3 week trip to Spain. I WONDER HOW I CAN MAKE RICE AND PASTA LAST A BIT LONGER IN MY CUPBOARD .

...  If you experience ANY of the above, that is what my Seminar 'Working Smarter' is about. That is why I travel across the country giving this lecture.. to assist individuals so that they never have to go through the above.

In Cleveland the sullen boys had the punk rock downs without the persona.
