Emerging on the scene from the middle of the map, appeared an artist by the name of ProteJ. In July of 2008 he self-released his rookie debut underground album titled; "The Hybrid Project". The Hybrid Project acts as a resume for this Midwest artist displaying his smooth-laid back mood and lyrical content. People have described his music as having an Old School/New School feel. ProteJ takes you on a ride through his album from dark grimey beats like "Streetlights", to laid back reminiscing tracks such as; "Back In The Day". He also throws into the mix two tracks being; "Shake That Body", and "Get It" that you could see everyone in the club moving their feet and bobbing their heads to. ProteJ's motivation to make solid hip hop music comes from his father who was a musician in Kansas for over 30 years. His father mainly performed 50's and 60's music along with classic rock. ProteJ's second motivation factor and perhaps the most important one, is his daughter Savanna. She passed away from SIDS(Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) in August of 2003. On the album you can here the song "Close Your Eyes" that is dedicated to her. With guest appearences from LAST and Mr. Chazs of Bowgaurd, and co-production and recording from the infamous Nezbeats from Archetype. The Hybrid Project is guaranteed to raise some eyebrows and perhaps keeping it in rotation permanetly. For being his rookie album it was produced well. Giving him the opportunity to grow and mature as an artist.
