    Alter-egos and other disguises

    1 Corinthians 13:11 KJV When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

    Shalom brethren. I've done a lot of one on one ministry in the last 5 years although I've been active in ministry for 16 years, and I minister online to people every day. What I see really concerns me and troubles me in my spirit. A great majority of "believers" are no where near where they should be in Christ although many project an image of holiness or hide behind a religious mask. These are just mere disguises we use to cover up a lot of the mess within us. Much of this is due to an inability to get past issues that have left many of us traumatized, wounded, or just bitter and resentful. The truth is that we all have "issues" and if you say that you don't you are only kidding yourself. This is why we need the Holy Ghost to continually work in us to perfect us. Some of us have been able to get past more issues than others so we have the privelege of helping others to loose the shackles that still bind them. A lot of you won't be able to take this in and that is just a sign that there is a problem. Denial and ignorance won't make the issues go away, which is why the book of James tells us to confess our faults one to another. That doens't mean that we confess our sins in a confessional booth. Faults refer to defects and imperfections. Its ok to be vulnerable. That's a sign of humility. We won't be perfect until we meet Jesus in the sky so we are all works in progress. Once these things are brought to the surface you can deal with them instead of allowing the fear of dealing with things to continue to cripple you and keep you in bondage. Its ok to allow the real you to come out. Those things you try to project are not you. They are just a part of the disguises. The real you isn't such a bad person. You just never gave yourself an opportunity to allow people to see what you are really like. Some of us are like frightened little children on the inside and we have so much fear and insecurity we need to put on the costume of the big ugly monster to frighten and push people away so no one can see that we are really sensitive underneath the tough exterior. You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to share what some examples of alter-egos are so you can relate. One of my alter-egos was like the cartoon character Underdog..."There's no need to fear, Underdog is here!". I felt I needed to be the one that made everything right in my own little world. Always trying to be the hero. When my parents finally got divorced I made it my fault for not being a better son or a better this or a better that. So I lived with this deep guilt and beat myself up for many years. That was just a cover up for another disguise, Casper the friendly Ghost, (not the Holy Ghost). All I wanted was a friend and whenever I got close to anyone I scared them away. This is because I projected more of the anger that was within me and there was nothing friendly about that. But the other disguise was even worse, more like King Kong and Godzilla rolled into one; if anybody got too close I became violent and destructive, I wouldn't let people get close to me and if they got in my space I would go off.
    A lot of other problems can result from these types of alter-egos such as addictions, promiscuity, deviant sexual behavior and extreme personality disorders. A lot of times what psychiatrists refer to as mental illness, and what some people may discern to be demonic activity is nothing more than the games we play while shifting from one alter-ego to another. Much of this can derive from physical, emotional verbal and/or sexual abuse, low self esteem or a lack of a Godly family structure during early stages of development. This might make some of you laugh and others may feel very uncomfortable but you did it too and some of you are still doing it. I see mothers that try to be supermom always trying to do everything for their children running all over the place while trying to shield them from experiencing life the way they did. Some mothers have 30 year old children at home still. There's things you did that your parents never knew about. You know what I'm talking about! All the frustration of not being able to meet all the needs turns supermom into Oscar the Grouch. Nothing to be ashamed of though. Now that you can see it you can do something about it.

    Ephesians 4:22 KJV That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

    The solution is simple. Just take off those dirty clothes. (The old man) Strip off those alter-egos and disguises and masks.

    Ephesians 4:23 KJV And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

    We need to change the way we think. It didn't work for us before, so what makes us think it will work for us now? Just like Benjamin Franklin said once. He defined insanity as repeating the same behavior over and over and expecting different results. You know what the problem is? You keep digging in the hamper for those same dirty clothes you took off. People don't normally take off dirty clothes and then bathe and put the same dirty clothes back on. You put on clean clothes.

    Philippians 4:8 KJV Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.

    These are the kind of things that we should be thinking about. Its not as hard as we make things look. We just allow too many worldly influences to cloud our judgment. We allow our emotions to dictate who we are so that we cannot attain the fulness of Christ. This is the Modus Operandi  (MO, mode of operation) of the devil. How can the devil be influencing a child of God? Very easily. Thou shalt not lie. When you project something other than yourself that is falsehood, same as a lie. We need to repent.

    Ephesians 4:24 KJV And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

    That's the new man. That other one should still be on the bottom of the baptismal pool or the river or the lake you were baptised in. You know what? I started to come out of my shell well before I came to Christ. I found out that the real me hiding behind all the facades was someone people liked to be around. People were interested in what I had to say. I lost my fear of what people thought about me and I became bolder in the way I expressed myself. The problem was I still had a lot of anger issues to deal with which took me a while to get over but I eventually got over them a long time ago. Sure there are things that I don't even remember because I had buried them so deep. That's why God is so good because he searches our hearts and lets us see that a lot of the times its not always the other person. The problem is in us. Then when these things do come to the surface don't try to keep it down. The reason we struglle is because we keep trying to resist change. I heard someone say once that if she didn't have the anger she didn't know how she can cope. The reason we never developed emotionally is that we avoid going through the emotions. You see that's what being born-again is really all about. We get another chance to get it right This will help you to understand the concept of the first Adam and the Second Adam. The first one messed up but the second one made it right. A baby doesn't know anything when it is born but when we get born again we think we know everything. That's why Jesus said we have to become as a child. We need to get it together brethren. How are you going to be able to minister effectively if you still got issues you need to deal with? I hope this helps some of you. Some of you will just get Very defensive and some will even get critical but its alright. That just shows that you need to really do some soul searching and see where the issues originated. If you need to talk and you need some help to get through some of the junk I'm here for you. Don't even try to do this if you're not serious. I'll say things you are not going to like because it will hit a nerve. The truth hurts. Don't hate though because as a Prophet God uses me this way, and he tells me stuff about people but its all for good. God has allowed me to help transform many people's lives, and I've seen families reconciled and marriages restored, and I enjoy seeing the results of sound teaching and biblical truth. Don't keep shuffling your feet around and hold your head up and pull your shoulders back. Walk like a child of the King. Tell the devil to loose that tongue and start talking like you have the authority the bible says you have. Stop wallowing in self-pity and don't allow fear to cause you to continue in the same behavior you had before you came to Christ. Its all about Jesus! God bless you and shalom!

    The danger of losing hope

    By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.

    By the rivers of Babylon, possibly a reference to the mighty Euphrates River along the southwest border of modern-day Iraq. It may have been possible to see the tops of the mountains of Israel to the southwest if you were sitting along the banks of the River. What a hopeless and pitiful situation for a people that were once free but are now captives in a foreign land. A consequence of sin. Sad when a person gives in and surrenders to their condition. Nothing left to do but to sit down and weep. Elijah the Tishbite sat down under a Juniper tree and desired to die because he received word that Jezebel wanted to kill him. Yet this is the same man that called fire down from heaven and slaughtered 450 prophets of Baal. In 1 Kings chapter 13 there was a man of God from Judah that was sent to prophesy against the altar that Jeroboam the king had set up. He was warned of God not to eat bread or drink water there or to go back the same way he came. Yet as he was leaving he sat down under a tree and fell asleep. An old prophet on a donkey was able to catch up with him and bring the man of God back to his house. Read the story and find out what happened to him. Job was a righteous man but the devil set out to destroy him by taking all that he had and then attacked his flesh. Job sat down in ashes covered with sackcloth scraping the sores on his body with a piece of pottery. Jonah also sat down under a tree, angry that God had not destroyed Nineveh. You know there's a lot of people sitting down. People God has called to be the head and not the tail. Sitting and weeping. "Oh God, why don't I feel your presence like I used to"? "Why why why"? "What about all the promises you made me"? "Boo hoo hoo". Shut up and get it together brethren. That kind of weeping comes from unbelief and a lack of faith. Snap out of it! It's ok to weep for the lost. You know how misery loves company. Many are in despair due to conditions that they created. Shacking up with and then marrying unbelievers, improper handling of funds, poor credit, deep in debt, (what do you expect if you don't tithe?) the house all tore up, children off the hook, need I go on? Somebody stop me! God didn't get you into that mess. He can get you out of it but you have to learn to manage your life properly. Its all in the instruction manual. Not only do we sit and weep but we start to remember how things used to be, adding insult to injury. Let's go back to the Word:

    For godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation, `a repentance' which bringeth no regret: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

    2 Corinthians 7:10 ASV

    Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning!
    Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now shall it spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

    We can't change what happened yesterday and we need to let go of issues from the past, whether or not they are good or bad. These things keep us in bondage. When the devil reminds you of your past, remind him of his future!
    We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.

    Then we make matter worse by giving evidence that what we used to do we no longer do. The Israelites hung their harps on the willows to show the Babylonians that they were no longer going to use them to praise God. Don't get me started! Like those old movies where the washed up boxer hangs his old boxing gloves on a rusty nail and sits down on a dusty chair drinking beer and getting fat. Some people like being a punching bag for the devil. Some people are like doormats, they let people walk all over them. Just take a little pig, and wash him white and clean but as soon as you let him go he runs right into the mud and swims in it. Some people like to get dirty. And then there are those that Brag about the stuff they do like they are proud of it. This doesn't happen overnight. Just like the brethren that are always in church then one day you don't see them, and then you see them less and less until no one knows anything about them. Just slack in your prayer life and read your bible less. Stop going to church. Watch more television and listen to worldly music. You will be dead meat in no time flat. It's just a matter of time.

    For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the last state is become worse with them than the first.

    We reap what we sow.

    It's not God's fault if you mess up. The Word says that with the temptation he will make a way for you to escape, but it's so much easier to play with sin. God is a good God. Just repent when you go to church on Sunday. Then play devil on Monday. Lord rebuke the devil. Keep playing with sin. Samson kept playing with it until he revealed the source of his strength. And look how he ended up

    For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us [required of us] mirth, [saying], Sing us [one] of the songs of Zion.

    Why stop there? Since you no longer go to church the devil starts to make a public display of you. Now your old buddies start looking for you. "Hey aren't you the one that used to shout praise God Hallelujah"?"Didn't you used to try to make us into Jesus freaks like you"? It won't be long before they start to tempt you. "How about a beer, in fact why not have a cigarette"? "Those church folk had you all messed up, this is where you belong...try some of this". Oh oh! "A little cocaine won't hurt you, you used to love the stuff"! "Sing us one of those nice songs you used to sing in the church". They are mocking you, making sport of you.

    How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?

    How are you going to praise God in that awful condition? What a mess! C'mon now...shake it off! As Paul was gathering sticks in Melita to put into the fire a viper (poisonous snake) latched onto his hand, but he shook it off into the fire. Shake it off some more! Get off the pity pot and give the devil a taste of his own medicine. Stand up and stop crying, you're embarrassing yourself. Stop shaking your money maker in the club and dance for Jesus in the church. Stop babbling that drunken talk and get filled with the Holy Ghost and speak tongues in the church and prophesy. Shake the dust off the bible and get back into the Word. That bible still looks new like you got it yesterday, a sign that it doesn't get much use. Ouch! Ladies go through your closets and toss out those hootchie mama clothes and start looking Holy. What are you saving that stuff for anyhow? Men stop tryin' to be a gangsta and put on your Sunday best, and shine them nice shoes and put on a nice tie and represent. When you're not in church you look like a hoodlum. God said be Holy as I am Holy. That's 24/7, 365 days a year! We got no time to be playing footsy with the devil. Let's get it together and turn this world upside down, and help bring the brethren back into the unity of the faith. Its a matter of life and death. God bless you and shalom!
