Lynn C. Tolson worked in real estate and property management while suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. During counseling, she determined the causes of PTSD, which included childhood incest. She wrote Beyond the Tears: A True Survivor’s Story, her memoir about suicide attempts in the aftermath of sexual abuse. She offers a message of hope and healing, as well as an understanding of issues that cause individual suffering and plague our society. She says, “Sexual assault, including incest, as well as suicide, are unsolved social problems that carry stigmas. The stigmas cast a code of silence that do not solve problems. The result from not speaking about the crime of rape is too often tragic. My goals are to bring awareness to the public and to be an advocate for the victims.” Using her life experience and social work education, Tolson offers information that will improve the quality of life of survivors. Lynn C. Tolson is the founder of the Project for TEARS: Telling Everyone About Rape & Suicide. The mission is to: • comfort victims by sharing • confront violence by breaking the silence • challenge society via information and action. http://www.beyondthetears.com/
