First off, as i said at the beginning of the show, before the catastrophic power outage took out the studio and the buildings on either side last night, our thoughts here at Free Rein Media and Probably Uncalled For are with our co-host ppdingles, who is attending to a family illness, and was unable to be with us for the total s**t sandwich we managed to serve up last night. Here's to hoping he'll be back with us soon.
How weird it was to hear of a rock star death that did not involve an overdose, a crazed fan, pyrotechnics, a Porsche and some Crown Royal, or a shotgun and some overwrought pretensions. Like most people who grew up during the original run of Headbangers' Ball (the cancellation of which was the beginning of the end for MTV), I was and remain a fan of Quiet Riot. While QR, like most 80's hair metal bands, peaked in the 80s before fading off to nostalgia and occasional returns to the limelight, it is unfortunate that they are so often overlooked for their contribution to the growth of heavy metal, and the press this tragedy has received will only go to underline that a little bit further, as people in and out of the music industry have already glutted the Internet and beyond with observations and rumor-mongering.
Hopefully, either Tony Henry will stick to the English language versions of national anthems, or England will figure out next time how to properly insult the visiting team's genitalia. Of course, in the time it took to type up this part of the post, David Beckham pulled a hammie, and is listed as day-to-day.
Speaking of high-profile flops, how quickly is the Spice Girls comeback running out of petrol?...The comeback single, Headlines, is making headlines, but for not even cracking 10k in sales and barely making the top ten charts in the UK, and their ticket prices are falling faster than the worth of a Barry Bonds rookie card. While initial dates sold out in mere seconds, the tour is already starting to breath hard without benefit of having done a single show. Tickets for the January 3 concert are already selling for less than a third of face value on eBay, but don't despair...not to be outdone by our friends across the pond, rumors have started swirling about a Jackson 5 tour, including the extra sister they picked by way of rhinoplasty, which should no doubt rival the Spice Girls for hype not living up to the main event.
While having worked in various facets of the publishing industry over the years, I was not surprised to hear about Aqua Dots still being advertised, despite having been recalled November 7, when it was discovered it could be repurposed as the first date rape kit available at a Toys R Us. I did find myself wondering, however, how many people tried to show up and purchase the damn things anyway, since they were advertised? I mean, who tried to get this on a rain check? S**t, answered my own question on that one, but you also have to wonder about the sense of parents who will get their children a toys that can be easily swallowed, when down the road it becomes apparent that the kid will put any damn thing in their mouth...
Hope next week goes more than a little better than this week, but then again, isn't that the foolish hope by which the majority of us suckers hang on to?

...first off, happy Thanksgiving to all our listeners, and those who haven't managed to find the Greatest Thing Since Sliced Came in Bread Form, a.k.a. Probably Uncalled For...remember, odds are you have more to be thankful for than you realize...
...i seem to remember a time when "the children are our future" seemed to be the hot catchphrase, from politics to mediocre songs...nowadays, when you have s*** like 5 year-olds being booted from school for throwing a building block, fire-breathing dragons being cut from children's' books for "health and safety reasons", and the absolutely bottom-line f***ing ludicrous interpretation of "einey meeney miney mo" as a racist statement (yes, I'm well aware such an example exists, but you seriously expect a middle school teacher to have used that version in a classroom?), the long-term prognosis for the world is not only grim, but a little morbid, too...it's like the old joke:
A man walks into a diner and orders a bowl of chili. The guy at the counter tells him there is only one bowl left, but the guy next to him had ordered it and couldn't finish it. Being hungry, the guy agrees to pay half-price and take the bowl of chili. About two-thirds of the way through, the man finds a live mouse laying there in the chili. Immediately throwing up everything back into the bowl, the man looks at the guy sitting next to him and exclaims "Did you know there was a dead mouse in that bowl of chili!?!" Looking up, a shade less green than the man who asked, the guy replied "Sure, that was how far I made it before throwing up!"
The moral (disgusting though it be): No matter how bad you think it is along the way, the end will, in all likelihood, overshadow the whole trip there. By stopping this side shy of walling off the children of the civilized world in individual plastic bubbles, the meek is going to inherit the earth, but the only thing is they will be too scared and f***ed up to run it...all we're gonna have is people too scared of their own shadow, or too scared to say or do a damn thing for fear of "offending" somebody, along with the usual collection of unwed teenage mothers and misfits we currently get to enjoy/foot the bill for in some way or another...this is not the kind of society we should be steering towards, but who the hell can argue, without getting sued because some a**hole felt threatened when the truth came lapping a little too close to his door?...I mean, at the rate we are going, who will be left for all the teachers to nail in the schools?...
...regarding Jackson County, Missouri's proposed "orgy" ordinance...is this going to become the hot new legislative issue for cities and counties, like smoking bans and strip club ordinances?...hope not, or it looks to be a long winter for all my freaks out there in Internet radio land...

(note from the show...sorry about the delay in getting this one posted...)...first off, a happy 33rd birthday to my co-host, ppdingles...
...man, last night was a blast...our biggest live audience yet...chat room humming away...the chick from Canada calling...good times...so far, in so far as we can actually track, Probably Uncalled For has been heard in Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, and the Philippines...with all the attention being paid, for whatever fucking reason, to daylight savings time, you'd swear up and down it was the second coming of Y2K...regarding the study on mixing Red Bull and vodka...WTF?...I mean, it's not that big a stretch of the imagination to figure that drinking too much vodka...mixed with...oh, I don't know...anything has negative consequences...wonder which Red Bull competitor under wrote this study?...makes you wonder...speaking of which, is it not a fucking shame as well as a sign of the times that we have more fitness water than a fatty can waggle a chin(s) at, even fitness water for dogs (fucking dogs, for fuck's sake), but we can't even protect our drinking water...I guess we'll see when Atlanta become the first city in the nation to be fueled exclusively by Propel fitness water...while I'm still a fan of both shows, it was kind of gratifying to score a point for Kirk in the "vs. Picard"...not that I can blame Stewart for taking the gig for the reasons he did...a little extra birthday for my co-host (don't worry...I'm sure he is already plotting his revengeance)...I would like to sincerely thank everybody for their support and/or vote in yesterday's elections...while I only gained 34 votes in my quest for the 3rd District City Council Seat in New Albany, I prefer to spin it as gaining 4% of the vote in the smallest district, and I'm not entirely sure, but I seriously doubt there was a Libertarian candidate for that seat before I came along...congratulations to winner Steve Price (D) and Brenda Scharlow (R) on their campaigns...and I take my 4% as cause for optimism as the Libertarian Party continues to grow and and evolve in southern Indiana...in addition to Probably Uncalled For, I look forward to renewing my focus on my position as Vice-Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Floyd County, and hope to start helping bring about more growth for the party locally...
