Six months after Walmart’s marketing blitz for the release of the Twilight DVD, the cutting-edge campaign is still making news. In its October 2009 cover story, titled “A Promo with Bite,” Successful Promotions writes:
“Walmart had its highest-selling day in the chain’s DVD’s history, following the midnight launch of Twilight. The online preorder rate also a record.”
Later in the report, the magazine singles out BlogTalkRadio’s efforts:
“Walmart partnered with BlogTalkRadio.com and produced a 90-minute live broadcast on March 9 with Twilight star Taylor Lautner… BTR employed a number of social media efforts to draw attention to the show, such as reaching out to bloggers, forums and websites; creating special-events pages on Facebook, MySpace and Ning; daily Twitter updates; an ad campaign throughout the BTR site; on-air promos; and Twilight DVD giveaways. Over 27,000 listeners worldwide logged on to the show live show; to date, over 100,000 have listened.”
