BlogTalkRadio Named 2008 "Webware 100" Audio Category Award Winner

BlogTalkRadio today announced that its citizen broadcasting network received the only non-music 2008 “Webware 100” Award in the audio category by Webware, a CNET site. In addition to being a non-music platform, BlogTalkRadio is the only audio category winner that enables users to create and distribute content, not solely distribute it like the other winners. The Web 2.0 user community cast nearly two million votes in an online voting poll which ultimately selected the winners. Finalists for the 2008 “Webware100” Awards were selected by the editors of Webware, who received and reviewed thousands of entries.

The 2008 Webware 100 Awards recognize the best Web 2.0 sites, services, and applications that are leading the next wave of innovation, such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Firefox and YouTube. BlogTalkRadio joined such well-known brands in the Audio category winner circle as iTunes, iLike, Last.fm, and Amazon MP3. A complete list of all winners can be found at www.webware.com/100.

BlogTalkRadio enables anyone to produce a live, original Internet talk radio show on virtually any topic. This worldwide platform has empowered thousands of citizen broadcasters to create and share their original content and opinions with more than 2.6 million listeners in March alone. BlogTalkRadio has broadcasted and archived more than 75,000 shows to date.

“Only five months out of Beta, and being recognized by the Web 2.0 community as one of the top 100 brands along with such players as Facebook, Firefox, YouTube, Twitter, and Google, is a testament to our unique, innovative platform. BlogTalkRadio is the only audio category winner that is not a music distribution tool,” said Alan Levy, BlogTalkRadio CEO and co-founder. “The simplicity and ease of use of our universal, citizen broadcast network is a key ingredient to our success and exponential growth. Not only do everyday people have a live two-way interactive outlet to express their talent and discuss their views, but BlogTalkRadio also attracts celebrities, political and industry figures to host and participate in shows as well. We are excited about the future success and continued growth and expansion of the BlogTalkRadio network.”

“The Webware 100 list has proven to be such a valuable resource for people new to Web 2.0,” said Rafe Needleman, editor at Webware and CNET. “We honor those organizations who strive to deliver the most innovative Web 2.0 sites, services and applications.”
