    There are a couple of reasons why disaster preparedness and hazard mitigation planning should be at the top of your community's agenda. First, and most importantly, you will be prepared for a disaster before it strikes, thereby saving lives, property, time, money, and resources. Second, disaster preparedness and planning can unite contituencies in your community behind a common goal. The protection of lives and prpoerty is a broad goal that is universally supported. If framed properly, it may allow you to address additional interrelated goals within your community.
