Black people around the world have fell prey to the condescending, negative reporting and programming of their likeness since the inception of "the media." The constant promotion of these negative images has damaged the minds of millions of people from all races, instilling fear, hostility and ignorance towards and amongst cultures by glamorizing and spinning negative stereotypes. Even more detrimental is one's acceptance and participation of the media's negative portrayal of their own culture. There are various radio, television and music programs which have set us back as a people; promoting and reigniting negative images our ancestors have fought long and hard to erase.
Fortunately, there is a movement to combat negative images in media; "Turn Off Channel Zero." "Turn Off Channel Zero" is a group of filmmakers, artists, activists and media personalities who are joining forces to address the negative images of Black people in various media outlets.
Join me as I speak with two of the many forces behind "Turn Off Channel Zero," Sawanda Spinks of Born2Blossom and Professor Griff of Public Enemy.
