The Masterpiece Marriage- Great Expectations

Imagine that you are planning a trip from your home to the North Pole. First, you dust off your gear and get it ready. Then you purchase additional supplies, making sure to run through your checklist several times to be sure that you have everything you need. Finally, you are ready to embark on your journey. 

      Now imagine that the only flaw in your carefully packed gear is a faulty compass which leads you in a direction just one degree off your intended course. At first there would not be any noticeable error; you would continue your route and enjoy the scenery. Evenntually, though, you would realize that your destination is not in sight and that your imperfect compass reading had led you to another place-one you hadn't planned on visiting!

    In some ways our lives, and particularly our marriage relationships, can experience a similar problem. We start off running with what seems to be calculated perfection. We have all the right tools, know all the right lingo and begin the journey with decided confidence and boundless energy. Then somewhere along the line we find ourselves off course, and we wonder what happened. We aren't where we thought we'd be - and we don't know why.
