I agree with James365's recommendation: when you meet someone off a dating website arrange for a face-to-face meeting as soon as possible in a public place. You get to learn so much more about someone from face-to-face interaction than you ever will through e-mail alone or phone conversations (neither of which provide the opportunity for both parties to observe each other's body language).

I've seen some photos from BlackPeopleMeet.com and many of those women were downright FRIGHTENING. I even saw a photo of a woman who looked like a female James Brown---definitely NOT a pretty sight.

Get over your fear and stigma of internet dating.... There's NOTHING wrong with dating and marrying someone you first met through a dating website. Dating websites are there solely to provide you the opportunity to establish contact with someone for that FIRST encounter.
