  Scott spends an hour with John Welshons. JOHN E. WELSHONS, M.A. is the founder and president of Open Heart Seminars, an organization born in 1981 dedicated to enhancing spiritual education and awareness in our society. Since the early 1970's, John has spent much time working with such notable spiritual educators as Ram Dass, Stephen Levine, Pat Rodegast, Judith Stanton, Dale Borglum, and others setting up meaningful lectures, workshops and retreats, many of which have been focused on people who were terminally ill as well as those in grief. He says his life was "dramatically changed" by his first meeting with Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross in 1976. Over the years, one of the main areas of investigation for John has been the grieving process. Through his workshops and one-on-one counseling, he has helped many people who are working with a terminal illness as well as the loved ones who are suffering about a death that has happened, or is imminent. He is a frequent lecturer to businesses, churches, hospitals, hospices, synagogues, colleges, and universities throughout the United States. He is the author of the new book, Awakening from Grief. An abridged version of one of his stories from the book is featured in A 6th Bowl of Chicken Soup for the Soul. He is also the co-author of Healing the Grief (...of the Loss of a Loved One)-- an audio tape about grief, loss, and healing-- developed in conjunction with his good friend, Mark Victor Hansen, the co-author of the phenomenally successful Chicken Soup for the Soul series of books. In addition, John's life experience includes a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of South Florida, and an M.A. in History of Religions from Florida State University, where he taught courses that included "Death and Dying" and "Religion in America."

Michelle Belanger's childhood could be a story straight from Ray Bradbury's October Country. Her small Midwest town featured a haunted public library, and it celebrated the return of flights of turkey vultures every year on the Ides of March. Afflicted with a life-threatening heart defect from birth, Michelle endured both out of body experiences and near death experiences before the age of five. Her mother believed that these traumatic brushes with death made Michelle more sensitive to psychic phenomenon. Michelle herself believes that her skills arise from a combination of genetics, environment, and fate. Michelle's psychic inheritance manifested in a variety of ways, the most remarkable of which was psychic vampirism. Michelle identified and came to terms with this condition while still in her teens. Leslie Klinger is considered to be one of the world’s foremost authorities on those twin icons of the Victorian era, Sherlock Holmes and Dracula. He is the editor of the three-volume collection of the short stories and novels, THE NEW ANNOTATED SHERLOCK HOLMES, published by W. W. Norton in 2004 and 2005, winner of the Edgar Award for Best Critical/Biographical Work and nominated for every other major award in the mystery genre. His new work, THE NEW ANNOTATED DRACULA, to be published by W. W. Norton on October 31, 2008, promises a similar in-depth examination of Bram Stoker’s haunting classic and its historical context. Since the 1960’s, the study of the rich fantastic literature of the Victorian writers has been Klinger’s consuming passion. He has written dozens of articles on Sherlockiana, published 12 books on Sherlock Holmes in addition to the Norton work, and regularly teaches a UCLA Extension course on “Sherlock Holmes and His World.” Klinger’s Sherlock Holmes Reference Library has been called by the Baker Street Journal “the standard text of reference for all serious Sherlockians.” Recently he delivered a paper at the 2007 symposium of the Transylvanian Society of Dracula, and he is a member of several international Dracula societies. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Klinger received an A.B. in English from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a J.D. from Boalt Hall (School of Law, U.C. Berkeley).
