PHB is seeking a Public Information Officer (PIO) who reports directly to the Manager of Equity, Policy and Communications and works closely with and has a strong connection to the housing director and Commissioner’s office. The PIO provides high-level public affairs and media strategy advice to both the Housing Director and Commissioner-in-Charge. The PIO will oversee the processing of public information requests; manage contacts and build relationships with reporters; and be the first point of contact for external communications and media releases. The PIO will also work with bureau staff to create proactive communication and media strategies for specific bureau projects and initiatives. The PIO is a member of the bureau’s Equity, Policy and Communications team, and is responsible for coordinating and aligning bureau communications, both externally and internally. The PIO is also the go-to person for consistent messaging and is responsible for big-picture thinking, writing and editing of reports, web pages and other documents that explain our strategies and programs. As a future project, the PIO will create an internal communications tool to disseminate bureau news, build camaraderie and share successes. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined is graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in public relations, communications, public administration and a minimum of five years closely related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
