Puppy Love, Crushing, and Swerving: Real Talk About Real Life with Your Teens

    in Moms and Family

The number of teens who have had sex remained stable in recent years according to a report released in June from the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG), Sexual Activity and Contraceptive Use Among Teenagers in the United States, 2011-2015. In 2011-2015 81% of female teens used some type of contraception when they first had intercourse, up from 74% in 2002. In 2015, fewer than six in ten high school students who were sexually active reported using condoms at their most recent sexual intercourse. Condom use among this group increased from 46 percent in 1991, to 63 percent in 2003, but has since declined, reaching 57 percent in 2015. Simultaneously, parents and other engaged adults struggle with effective communication methods regarding sex and teens.
There are two talks – the mechanics and the navigation. We call “The Mechanics Talk – The First Talk. The Navigation of the teen social world and all its nuances we call The Second talk. Have you had the second talk with your kids. We know – some of us haven’t had the FIRST one!
Among never-married teens in 2011-2015, 42% of females and 44% of males had sexual intercourse at least one time, similar to numbers from 2006-2010.
Join Tonya and Denise as they share their challenges with managing the contemporary issues of teens, love and crushing!

In today's session, artist and storyteller Tanisha Lynn Pyron talks about her photo series the "Ratchet Houswife" and encourages us reimagine those we judge the most as allies for social change. The Fast Way To Health and Happiness In Your Own Everyday Life

    in Moms and Family

The road to true happiness is not traveled as often as some of us may think. Especially in the black community. As much as this show is for Mommy's of all races, I have a passion for well...black women. I don't think I need to say why. Far too often we are not experiencing the happiness we truly desire. And for whatever reason, we have this idea that it is the fault of something outside ourselves. Through my own journies and experiences. I am realzing this CANNOT be the truth.
Join Us for this next episode as we talk with Dr. Nalani Valentine to discuss how we can fast track our health and happiness. These two go hand in hand. If you don't feel good you WILL NOT be happy. Making sure that we feel good is as important as breathing because the way we feel determines our ability to accomplish things in our lives.
This is going to be an information packed episode you won't want to miss.
If you haven't done so already be sure to stop by our Mommy Do Yo Thang Community Page and give us a "Like" on Facebook. We keep you up to date on the latest news in this wonderful network of Mom's.
