September is National Month for Renters and this week on The Empowerment Hour we are raising awareness and placing a spotlight on a very real problem affecting a large number of Americans. Imagine working, sometimes more than one job, and you still can’t afford to pay rent every month. This is the reality for 25 million Americans impacted by the housing-affordability crisis. 11.4 million households pay more than half of their income on rent making it difficult for many to pay for other basic needs like groceries and health care. In this episode, Nancy chats with Ali Solis, CEO and President of Make Room, a national advocacy non-profit based in Washington, D.C. Ali talks about the work she and her team at Make Room do to elevate affordable housing on the national agenda. She shares insight on why she's passionate about this work and what we can do individually and collectively to bring awareness to the affordable housing crisis in this country.
Also in this episode, Nancy chats with Lola Lovenotes, a local NYC artist about being 1 of 11 artists chosen to participate in Make Room's art exhibit called "The Doors of Make Room". Make Room commissioned 11 artists from across the country to present a one-of-a-kind fiberglass public art project. The 11 fiberglass doors will be showcased in 11 different public and private spaces and high tourist/traffic locations in Washington, D.C. September 13-28. Lola talks with Nancy on what inspired her art for this project, how she's personally been affected by the housing crisis, and the message she hopes to convey through her art.

The presidential race is exciting, but local party politics can be just as exciting and lead to serious national impact. Just weeks ago, Vincent Campos and Patrick Tarr led the Iowa’s Pottawattamie County Republican Party to change its party platform to call for an end to corporate constitutional rights -- in similar language to our We the People Amendment! Campos and Tarr join us to tell all about his effort to amend his party’s platform and endorse Move to Amend in this week’s episode of Move to Amend Reports!

Remembering 9/11... 17 Years On, What's Happening in the Oval?, Concluding Confirmation, Gov. Shut D
Our panel remembers the tragic events of 9/11 on this, the 17th Anniversary of that tragic day. Two publications were released this past week, one an anonymous op-ed in the New York Time and the other a book by Bob Woodward. Both publications have an insider's perspective on what exactly is going on behind the closed doors of the White House. Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings ended this past Thursday, but were they just a formality? The sportswear brand Nike released their 30th anniversary ad campaign with the face of Colin Kaepernick. Was this a previous business deal Nike made or is it the company making a political statement? On a side note, the Government is scheduled to run of of funding in the next 20 day and no one is talking about it…..all of this and more on this week's episode of BACKROOM POLITICS!!!
A taboo topic for the dinner table and social gatherings, politics both unite and divide our world. Especially every four years. BlogTalkRadio's Election coverage is vast, varied and accurate: We know it's not always the pundits with the best insight on today's political climate; our hosts represent the voice of the people, by the people, for the people. Whether you fall on the Conservative end of the spectrum, the Progressive, are moderate or somewhere on the many shades in between, you'll find plenty of commiseration with those who share your views, some of which are famous dignitaries like Michelle Obama and Kofi Annan, or famous actors, authors, news reporters, TV personalities, even comedians. The best part? If you've got something to say, you can start your own show! Go on, hop up on that soapbox and have at it – speak your mind, rant, rave and filibuster to your heart's content.
