PreSeason 3: Interviews with Lady Blue & Byron The Poet (2009 Replay)

    in Poetry

Lady Blue is an icon for many poets and spoken word artists because of her candid attitude towards teaching, caring, and mentoring.   Her background in theatre, literary arts, and teaching establishes her as a legendary coach and mentor to many poets and artists.   There are few like Lady Blue.  She is one of the most respectable people one could meet.  It was a pleasure having her on the show.

    Byron the Poet
Byron the Poet joined the segment to celebrate his two books of poetry, “After Midnight” and “Circle Complete.”   During the discussion, he shared reflections on his personal development, attained through life, family, and community.
Most interesting is his perspective on having been raised in a rural area; passionately upholding the values of responsibility, personal growth, and accountability, all attributes gained through a tightly nit community and family.  We shared reflections.
“Sometimes being denied is a good thing, because you must learn how to deal with it.”   This quote is well developed and certainly reflected through the integrity of his words, maturity of his capabilities, and motivations behind his goals in writing, life, and as a successful father.   Certainly, one of my most memorable and personally meaningful interviews for a long time to come.

Other interviews and features on the Segment included:  Max Parthas & Tribal Raine, Chenylu Bomani, Daniel Osbie, LyriQ,  P.E.A.C.E., Aalysis, and Tshombe The Poet.  Episodes remain available on the BTR internet radio network.

SpokenHeard with Cola Rum and Susan Dobbe Chase

    in Poetry

Some say he’s jaded, cynical, obnoxious, and politically incorrect but one label that they can never place on him is “Reserved”.  Christened the “Infamous”, by his poetry peers; Cola Rum is a poet, spoken-word artist, essayist, and writer that refused to be put in a systematic box of normality.  Hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, now living in the post-industrial renaissance of Atlanta, Georgia, He’s been blessed and cursed with the ability to blatantly talk about the true existence of this painful and joyous experience called life. In his cynical yet refreshing, dark though humorous verbal assault on the human mind, you can find that there is another level of entertainment and enlightenment existing deep within us. For 19 years his art has taken him all across the globe performing on television shows, lecturing on creative writing at Universities and featuring in various art documentaries, he is currently putting the final touches on a double-novel, “Naaah nigga I aint doing a fucking double!”
