In the book, "The Cross and the Lynching Tree," by James Cone, he mentioned the lynching era which was between 1880 and 1940. Although some would say that it lasted much longer than that. Black Americans, especially males in southern states, were fearful for their lives. Lynching was also publicized in newspapers and covered by the local press in order to get as many "whites" as they could to witness the spectacle.

Fast forward to today, 2018. We don't necessarily have publicized lynchings, but what we do have is the killings of Black males intentionally by white police officers shooting some in the back while they're running away or the strangling of Black men who tell the white police officers they can't breathe along with the intentional shootings of "young" Black boys who play with "toy" guns. Most of these incidents today are video taped for ALL to see. Although for whatever reason, eventhough you have a video that clearly shows what happened, the justice system seems to be blind and allows the policemen to go free.
