  • Sunday Rescue-Dogs Deserve Better

    in Pets

Dogs Deserve Better, a national and award-winning nonprofit organization, is a voice for chained and penned dogs. As the days become years, many of these dogs sit, lay, eat, and defecate within the same 10-foot radius. Chained by the neck, they exist without respect, love, exercise, social interaction, and sometimes even basic nourishment. They live as prisoners, yet long to be pets.
"Dogs Deserve Better has dogs we have rescued from chains or pens available for adoption at both our Good Newz Rehab Center in Smithfield, Virginia, and in foster homes nationwide. At any given time we may have as many as 50-75 dogs available for adoption, depending on our ability."

  • K9SK Brianna & Knox and their PIDC Championship

    in Pets

On this week’s episode of K9SK, we will be talking with Brianna Minshew of Rome, GA. She has 3 border collies, Knox and Roy are pure bred and Pistol is her little rescue puppy. Brianna has been competing in various dog sports with Knox since 2012 and Roy since late 2013. Knox is a 4 year old male who is very accomplished in the sport of dock diving. Knox won his very first competition with a jump of 27 feet 8 inches at only 1.5 years old. Knox also won his 2nd competition at Stone Mountain with a jump of 26 feet 5 inches and got invited to the 2012 Dock Dogs World Championships in Dubuque, Iowa. Knox has won almost all of the competitions we have entered. He loves the water and loves to jump. At the DDWW Championships, Knox placed 6th overall in the Super Elite Division. He also won top ranked Border Collie of 2012. Knox’s biggest accomplishments have been at the Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge events. In 2013 we got invited to compete at the Eastern Regionals in St. Petersburg, Fl. Knox won 2nd place with a 29 foot 10 inch jump. The 1st and 2nd place competitors were so close in distance they both got invited to compete in the Nationals at Purina Farms in Gray Summit. Missouri. At the finals Knox jumped 28 feet 1 inch to take home 5th place. We were discouraged but we wanted to try for 1st place next year so this April Knox and she drove to Centennial Park in Atlanta, GA and did the qualifiers for the Eastern Regionals diving dog event on Friday. Knox jumped a 29 foot 11 inch jump to qualify for 1st to come back the next day for the finals. On Saturday Knox jumped in the 30 foot range all day and ended up winning 1st place with a 30 foot 7 inch jump. He now holds the record for longest jump at the Eastern Regionals. We will be traveling back to Purina Farms on September 26-27 to compete in the Nationals and hopefully take home another big win.
