Chris, only heard part of the show. E-mail me at cigarguy@cadwallader.cc and we'll get up to date. Lots to talk about. Darrell, the photog from VCC 'the paper.' I'm in Tampa, Chas Martin is in Vancouver.

Chicago Talk Radio

Broadcasting from the comfort of the deep leather chairs and smoke filled classic cigar lounges of Chicago, teeth clamped around a triple maduro, their fists full of single malt scotch, Sgt. David Haynes and author at large, Chris Garlington, have cultivated and maintain a long standing argument about . . . everything. From the value of trans-party political discourse to the importance of epic failure, cool nicknames, and secret societies, Dave & Chris reduce every major topical argument to dick jokes and its relationship to beer. Join the Dave & Chris Show and prepare to laugh your ass off.

    We're Sorry!

We're still amazed at how quickly we're growing at the Dave & Chris Show. I can't tell you how cool it is to know you folks are tuning in! So I'd like to tell you how sorry we are that our show disappeared last week. We're not entirely sure what happened, but we can tell you what to do if it happens to you.

Please remember, our show is on location so our set up is a little more complicated than a desktop rig.

What to do when your show goes down!

    First, don't panic.

You need to have a "Please Stand By" clip ready to go for when something weird happens. Perfectly Harmless Radio uses (http://www.televisiontunes.com/Newlywed_Game_(The).html) which you can modify in Audacity or Garageband. Just run it out to three minutes as a loop and hope you never have to use more than ten seconds of it.

    Second, alert your guest!

Just have them standby for a few minutes. Let them know there's a problem then mute them or put them on hold.

Third: Sacrifice a Goat to Larry King

    • Or, you can quickly look over your set-up. Check the most likely sources of disconnect:
    1. Is your USB port loose or disconnected?
    2. Is your board connected to your PC?
    3. Are your Mics off?
    4. Is Your Skype/voip account down?
    5. Did your wireless connection or router die?
    Test from a second computer.

If you have one, keep your show broadcasting on a second computer while you broadcast. Just run the sound out through some phones which you can pick up anytime to listen for quality, timing, etc. In an emergency, you can quickly determine if you're on the air, if your mic is working, etc.

    Once you're back on

Do a quick apology and keep going. Bring your guest back in as if nothing happened.

    After you're off the air

Perform a show autopsy. Figure out what went wrong and develop some kind of preventative measures or a fast remedy for that situation should it occur in again–and it will.
