I discussed this issue last year when it showed up last year on another writer's blog. It came up again here recently so I think my statement from last year is still spot on! The question was asked: If your intended wanted to wait until you were married to have sex, would you? If everything else in the relationship was going well, would you wait for Mr. Goodbar to "put out" until you tied the knot?
Well, for myself the answer is a resounding "NO". I absolutely would NOT wait. I believe that if the man was that much in love with me, he would put aside his selfish desire to abstain in order to satisfy my sexual needs. (And believe me...I have LOTS of them!) I have been married a very long time and if something came to pass whereby I did not have my current wonderful emotional and sexual relationship, I would definitely be seeking another mate who was ready to entertain a full relationship which absolutely includes a physical, sexual relationship. I know myself too well to wait and find that the sex is lousy. I have little patience for lousy sex and would not hang around very long. Bad sex is a deal breaker in my book, which is why I would NEVER marry or enter a long-term relationship with a man without test-driving him first.
I work very hard on my sexual prowess and am constantly working to improve my performance for both myself and my mate. To me that is part and parcel of a good relationship. Frankly, from what I've heard from my single friends, there is way too much mediocre and just plain bad sex out there for anyone to give a man a "pass". I do respect a man's right to be a virgin or celibate. He just couldn't do it with me.
If you're still in the hunt for a mate would you give your intended a "pass" on sex until after the rings were exchanged? Or would you have to take at least one test drive?
