    The FlyLady's Appeal

    She is larger than life.  But if you ask her, she'll humbly tell you it was never her intention to become an "icon" of sorts.  All she set out to do was to help one person who asked for it. 

    Today, she helps hundreds of thousands of women through her words of wisdom and self-help, motivational books.  She is affectionately known as The FlyLady and I have the privilege of knowing her.  

    I've said this many times before: you never know who knows who so it pays to be nice to everybody. This is especially true in social media. With Facebook and Twitter literally connecting thousands of people at a time, you never know who in that vast circle can lead you to someone you really want to know.

    That's what happened when I connected with The FlyLady. We were connected to the same person (Producer Marc Sotkin) on Twitter and Facebook but not to each other. During a conversation with Marc, I learned that he knew her and I wanted to know her too so he opened the door to make it happen.

    As a result, I have now had the privilege of meeting one of the most wonderful, inspirational baby boomer women I've ever known. And just to give you an idea of how awesome the FlyLady really is---she agreed to be the Keynote Speaker last month for the Women's Social Media Summit sponsored by my organization Boomer Diva Nation. She didn't know me other than what she may have read in a profile but she came and supported our efforts out of the goodness of her heart.

    The cool thing about social media is it connects you with people you probably wouldn't have otherwise known. Cooler than that is when you actually get to meet, face-to-face, someone you connect with online.
