PIT Crew Conversation with Dr. Patricia Porter

    Quote for the day:
"If we succeed in giving the love of learning, the learning itself is sure to follow." ~John Lubbock

    Highlights from today's conversation:

Match the support given to the learning style of your child.

Patrica shared a great story about the importance of understanding learning style differences:

The mother was logical: everything in it's place.
The child: a creative 'cloud' thinker-- she need things spread out all around her in order to process her homework.

Homework was a battle until the mother and the child had a chat .
Once the mom stopped needing all the pencils to be in order and all the papers  be in neat stacks, the child could approach the homework time with a lot less fear and worry.
Mom so wanted to help-- and she did continue to support and love her child
    and encourage her homework time.
She also learned to respect the way her child needed
to learn was different from how she like to learn.

Patricia also pointed out it matters not where you live in the world-- you need to get involved in your child's edcuation process.
    She sees two levels:

The personal level: talk to your child, and the teacher. communication is SO very important. Patricia's whole website is around helping parents understand what they need to know in order to help their children learn how to learn.

The global level: participate in events at the school, get to know the community your child spends so much time in. connect with other parents through local or national organizations. Find out how your school works. It is your voice that will influence change to make the edcuation system a  positive and productive place for all learners.

go visit her website: www.leading2learn.com to find her report on the 5 mistakes parents make in helping theri child learn how to  learn and how to avoid them

She is looking forward to reading : The Homework Mes
Watch her blog for her insights from this book.
