PIT CREW Conversation with John Bendt

    Today we shared a resource:
A Road map to Careerer Success --25 tips for College Bound Students ( and their parents!)

Author John Bendt shared with us why he wrote the book:

After many years in the work world he was a first hand witness to the score of young people coming out of school into the world of work and not knowing how to get connected to the jobs that were meaningful to them.
In looking for a book or resource to share with young people, he realized there was not one available so he created it as way to help parents and students create a plan for getting ready for a career after High School.
As a businessman,  he was surprised to discover  that the only way a student will  really get any career planning guidance is through parent involvement.

He realized schools  tasked with so many responsibilities, that sadly one of the reason why we go to school-- to learn how to go to work, is one area  the school does not have time to support .   Ironic  really, when you consider how much time is spent on getting ready to test and how much the test score dictates whether the school is a success or not.

     Schools are working hard .
Teachers and administrators need  the help of the parents and the community to facilitate
this aspect of careerer planning and mentoring. The schools have run out of time and resources.  No longer are we finger pointing and blaming.  We are now naming areas of action for parents and teachers to collaborate on so that we can make a positive change in our children's education.

John Bent's book is a great read-- 80 pages packed with very valuable tips on how to plan for life after high school. It gives the parent and student a place to begin the journey togerther.  This a book is a geat tool in helping create a very dynamic individual learning plan that supports the student in idienitfying his or her fields of intrenst and abilites and connects them to the world of work. Getting started on a life long journey of learning and working-- now that is a a road map to success  all students  and parents need to read!
