A fictional tale based on the experiences of author Gerry Boylan, Getting There follows a middle-aged father as he attempts to reconcile his unstable and reckless youth with the example he hopes to set for his college-bound daughter. In 1973, Luke Moore sets off on a journey to find himself, hitchhiking along I-75 between Florida and Michigan. He meets an extraordinary cast of characters, survives the dangers of the road and eventually falls in love. In 2003, Luke and his wife are driving their daughter to college, when they pick up a young hitchhiker. As Luke reflects on the lessons he learned on the road as a boy, he wonders how he can convince his daughter not to make the same mistakes he’s made—and whether it’s wise to trust the stranger sitting in the backseat... www.gerryboylan.com
