Dr. Wondu has been a renowned leader in the efforts to eradicate trachoma in Ethiopia.  He has published dozens of peer-reviewed articles on trachoma in Ethiopia and established the first eye bank in Ethiopia to address the problem of corneal blindness. Dr. Wondu was the recepient of the International Coalition for Trachoma Control (ICTC) MacCallan Medal in 2014.
