Join Angela Thomas & Rodney Smith as they discuss, “The President’s State of the Union Address and What Do Black People Want?” “The President’s State of the Union Address,” is an opportunity for the Chief Executive Officer of America to lay out his vision for America’s future each year. There were many themes that harkened back to last year like jobs and the economy but the president did mention things like our “Sputnik Moment.” What did you think of Reps and Dems setting together instead of the usual split Congress with Dems on one side and Repubs on the other in honor of Congresswoman Giffords? Was it just another speech with the usual things people want to hear or was there something that really moved you and hopefully the country? After Celebrating Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his birthday we move into February with our nations celebration of Black History. It is a time to celebrate a people that helped build this great country but also to reflect back on how these same people were oppressed by this country. There have been many challenges and successes but arguably as a people, African Americans still are not where they should be. Does anyone know what Black people want? We know what other groups want. The union’s want honest wages for an honest day’s pay, fair labor practices and benefits. The LGBT community want marriage rights and up to recently the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Jewish Americans want a safe, secure and free homeland in Israel. Hispanic and Latino’s want immigration reform, citizenship rights and drivers license for the undocumented. The question now is, ‘What Do Black People Want? Join Angela & Rodney as we tackle this question.
