The year was 1965 and Mike scored his first real gig playing his guitar and singing for an older woman’s 15th birthday party. Mike was 14 years old at the time and had to be driven to the party by his father. After a brief solo career, Mike joined with some school friends and formed a rock band called “Something Different”, which lasted for a couple of years. Then, along with Steve Leed and going by the name “Morning Glory” (hey, it was the late ‘60s and early 70’s, after all), singly and as a part of the duo, he returned to the folk and folk-rock genre and played the coffee houses and college hangouts in the Richmond and central Virginia area. Adulthood, family and the need for a steady paycheck placed his music aspirations on hold for a few decades. Then in 2008, along with sailing friend Ed O’Connor, Mike returned to playing and performing as “Mike & Ed”, playing their favorite songs from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s in cafes, pubs and clubs throughout central and eastern Virginia. In 2016, Mike returned to performing folk, folk-rock, Americana and blues as a solo act and trying his hand at songwriting.
