Christianity seems torn between the extremes of fundamenalist absolutism on one hand and progressives who are trying to find a way to appeal to diminishing congregations who are not finding relevance in the traditions so many of us were raised in. Amos Smith finds answers to these questions by delving into Christianity's past to an era often overlooked in today's Christian traditions. The years between 312 and 454 C.,E. was an era of great enlighenment and understanding. God was at the center of faith and Jesus was seen as the example of how God was at work with humanity. For the last 10 years he has been a part of productions across the Gulf Coast area. The New Thought Movie is his first documentary. As a musician Jon has always been drawn to creating music that had a positive message. As a writer and performer of a lot of positive music he found out about New Thought churches like Unity and Religious Science a few years ago. Soon after, he began playing at many new thought churches and sharing his music with the congregations. As he studied, he started to learn of the movement's rich history and its wide-spread influence. Jon got the idea to do this documentary almost a year ago and discarded it immediately. He initially thought the project would be too big to take on, but the idea simply would not go away. After struggling over what to do about it for a couple of months he decided to start making very simple steps in the direction of putting this documentary together. He started asking himself, “If I did this documentary what are the questions I would ask? Who would I want to talk to? How would I start?” Before he knew it he was making the documentary that premiers this month. 01:04:00Rev Sydney Magill LindquistnoThe New Thought Movie,New Thought,Unity,Religious Science,Divine ScienceJon Miller Producer of the New Thought Movie Live Call In Show Jon Miller is an independent video producer based out of Mobile, Alabama. In the first of the 'Radio on the Road' Series, co-sponsored by Open Minds Open Hearts Radio and host center One World Spiritual Center, in the wake of a mass-shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, as well as several recent acts of arson or vandalism against Islamic mosques, representatives from six religions gathered in northeast Cobb County, Georgia for an interfaith discussion. The Interfaith panel participants were Preetpal Singh, representing the Sikh tradition; Dr. Steve Chervin, representing the Jewish tradition; Iraj Khodadoost, representing the Baha’i tradition; Rev. Stephanie Seigh, representing the Christian tradition; Gary Arnold, representing the Pagan tradition; and Nafis Rehman, representing the Islamic tradition. The panel of six different faiths engaged in an 1 ½ hour panel discussion before 35 people at the One World Spiritual Center discussing the roots of their faith. Speakers emphasized that their religions had more in common than differences, with each using a written scripture that leads to different interpretations of the religion’s philosophy. In answering questions from the audience they agreed that a rise of fundamentalism and bigotry poses challenges in all faith traditions. 01:40:00Rev Sydney Magill LindquistnoInterfaith,One World Spiritual Center,Radio on the Road,Interfaith Panel Discussion,Peace among faiths'Radio on the Road' Series at One World Spiritual Center Recorded Sunday, August 19th, 2012 Open Minds Open Hearts Radio Show took Interfaith Dialogue on siteA.F. She was one of those far right conservative Christians. She even completed a Bible Institute program that ingrained the conservative worldview into her being. She left the movement, after a few decades of ardent involvement, over the position that women should stay with abusive husbands. She graduated from a church sponsored Bible Institute, worked as a part time church secretary in her spare time, was a Sunday school teacher for approximately eight years, and wrote for a monthly church publication. She holds a BSBA degree, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Sacred Theology. She has worked in Fortune 500 companies her entire adult life. This was the book that had to be written and would not be quieted. This work is a timely exposé on the Religious Right that gives insight into the network’s blueprint for America. This book covers everything from Christian Reconstructionists, Dominionists, Quiverfull, Seven Mountains Mandate, to the war on women and attacks on public schools. You will find out who the leaders of the movement are and their tactics. It explains and documents a stealthy hijacking of the government, courts, schools, even our history, and popular culture. Of Frank's writing Jeff Sharlet writes, "'Crazy For God' is a brilliant book, a portrait of fundamentalism painted in broad strokes with streaks of nuance, the twinned coming-of-age story of Frank and the Christian right." Jane Smiley (The Nation) writes: "'Crazy For God' offers considerable insight into several issues that have bedeviled American life in the past thirty years, and... when taken in conjunction with [Frank Schaeffer's] other works (notably the Calvin Becker Trilogy, ['Portofino,' 'Zermatt' and 'Saving Grandma']), it gives us not only a handle on the mess we are in but also quite a few laughs..." Mark Townsend. Author of "Jesus Through Pagan Eyes, Bridging Neopagan Perspectives with a Progressive Vision of Christ" ."He has been a Priest of the Open Episcopal Church since June 2011. His Parish of St. Francis and Mother Earth OEC, situated within the Midlands Diocese, has no geographical boundaries. As an Open Episcopal Priest (OEC) and member of the Progressive Christian Alliance (PCA), Mark is able to express his open vision of Christian Priesthood in a fully sacramental way. Among the services offered is an Open Table (Holy Communion for anyone who desires), rites of passage from the traditional to the avant-garde, house blessings and ceremonies to mark special occasions such as anniversaries and civil ceremonies. Mark is a professional Celebrant and a member of the Association of Independent Celebrants (AOIC).  One of the greatest blessings of the last few years is Mark’s discovery of the earth based path of Druidry, which he sees as totally compatible with Christianity. Most modern Druids see their path not so much as a religion but more as a philosophy, which means that there are many who follow the Druid ways and yet remain Christian, Jewish, Buddhist or even Atheist. We'll talk about his most recent book; Re-Claiming the Bible for a Non-Religious World  Here's what they're saying about his new book: "Spong brings the best of current scholarship to free the Bible from Sunday school naivete and literalistic interpretations. The result is an introduction to the Bible that will engage readers who no longer sit in church pews." -- Andrew D. Scrimgeour. Bishop Spong is not interested in Bible bashing. “I come to this interpretive task not as an enemy of Christianity,” he says. “I am not even a disillusioned former Christian, as some of my scholar-friends identify themselves. I am a believer who knows and loves the Bible deeply. But I also recognize that parts of it have been used to undergird prejudices and to mask violence.” His bestselling books include Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism, A New Christianity for a New World, Why Christianity Must Change or Die, and Here I Stand. Tonight's show is hosted by Rev. Sydney Magill Lindquist.
