Join Mende as she talks Billy Burgos Billy Burgos is a 37 year old Portrait Painter/Designer originally from Belize Central America. His family migrated to Southern California when he was 8 years old. Billy has since traveled between coasts with family in Brooklyn N.Y. as well as South Los Angeles. After settling in the Leimert Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, Billy became a regular fixture at The Anansi Writers Workshop where he gained a deeper appreciation for the written word. His poetry has since appeared in numerous anthologies as well as print and online journals since such as Gotpoetry, Lung and Killpoet. He has performed his poetry at many L.A. venues including The Worldstage, The Cobalt Cafe, Beyond Baroque, The Mark Taper Auditorium and Booksoup. In 2009 Billy was selected as an up and coming poet in The Los Angeles Poetry Festival and was a featured reader at the prestigious Newer Poets XIV inside the Central Library. Billy also serves as a curator on staff at Gotpoetry.com. At present Billy is working on his first collection of poems that deals with the days surrounding the death of his father. He is also working on a children's book of short stories which he Illustrated as well.
