Stop the Violence- Part 1 of 5 Part Series

The solutions for community issues should come from those in the community that are affected by the problem.  We need to get the word out  about the resources that are available.  We also need to do better with assembling the collective resources that are already in place.

The Weed and Seed grant is designed to fund activities that will empower communities to initiate their own solutions to crime.  According to the grant announcement, the Weed and Seed grant is available to prevent, control, and reduce violent crime, drug abuse, and gang activity. The Weed and Seed initiative comprises a community-based, comprehensive multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention, and neighborhood restoration. It is designed for communities with persistent high levels of serious violent crime (Part I) and corresponding social problems.

This week's discussions will focus on the issues associated with doing something to stop the violence in our communities.  In our next program an ex-gang member will contribute some insight into the culture of gang violence and how to address it.
