Forgiveness of Others: You Are Holding Yourself Hostage

21Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”

22Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. Matthew 18:21-22.

As we forgive, our God will forgive us. So clearly if we don’t forgive, then we will not be forgiven. Do you really want your forgiveness held up because you can’t forgive? Is what they did so bad that you can’t forgive them? Yet you want to be forgiven immediately? Why is it that we hold ourselves hostage and leave our ability to be forgiven and ultimately blessed in some forgiveness?

We will review the principal of forgiveness, how we get past the real hard stuff, and what to do now that we have released then and how to discontinue this pattern in the future. Forgiveness is not optional.
