I do not agree with many of the political views of the host Elizabeth “Media Lizzy” Blackney, but at least she seemed willing to listen to divergent views and willing to allow them a voice on her show found on the Blog Talk Radio Network. Many right leaning radio personalities in my local area of Charlotte, North Carolina are not so willing to give airtime to those whose views are not in lock step with their own. Many times when I would call into these shows, I was not given an opportunity to express my viewpoint on any given topic and the host would frequently over talk me or outright hang up me.
I remember calling into the Jason Lewis show when he was still in Charlotte before he moved backed to Minnesota, the topic was on prison overcrowding. Jason had a local state representative on and I called into the show to ask if perhaps overcrowding could be alleviated by providing more funding to hire more DNA technicians to reduce the backlog of old cases where a person was convicted of a crime and DNA was still available but the technology did not exist at the time of their convictions. Jason with a very condescending tone said, “Why, do you know someone you want to break out of prison” and then hung up on me. The guest, one of my local politicians seemed taken aback by Jason’s harsh treatment of a caller and proceeded to state how the State should look into that area considering that the technology was now available to make sure it had not incarcerated people who should not be in prison. Jason then proceeded to get a slew of emails, which he acknowledged, that chastised him for being so rude to a listener.
The first instance that led me to lose respect for Ms. Blackney was when she held a Memorial Day show and sought to politically play upon the deaths of soldiers by displaying resentment for anti-war protestors. In case Ms. Blackney needs to be reminded, freedom of speech and protest is just one of the rights for which many soldiers gave their lives. Ms. Blackney would be well advised that Memorial Day historically is a day set aside not only to remember the fallen but also to foster a national day of prayer for peace. Therefore, whenever I hear people make pro-war statements on such a day, especially when the soldiers today are losing their lives in a needless and unavoidable war, I cannot help but get disgusted.
The second instance occurred about a week ago when I was surfing one of my favorite sites for news. There it was, a Google Ad for the Media Lizzy show that read, “I’m just a girl, Sex and Politics, Yum!” Now I had just listen to part of another show on Blog Talk Radio, hosted by a person who calls himself Ghost and bills himself as a real conservative. Ghost was going on a rant about how Media Lizzy banned him from the chat room of her show because he refered to one of “her people” as a communist. Well Ghost was being not so nice in his choice of words for Media Lizzy and one of “her people” who goes by Flag Glazer. Ghost claimed that Flag Gazer baited him, not that communist is a bad name and people like Ms. Blackney and Flag Glazer use similar terms to describe liberals. Names like socialist, Marxist and the like. Ghost used words referring to Media Lizzy as prostitute, Jezebel and other derogatory names for women that I do not approve of but soon after I read her Google Ad advertising “Sex and Politics”, I could not help but wonder if Ghost had seen the ad himself. I have three daughters and would be ashamed to see them exploit themselves in such a manner to get ahead in anything. Women have traveled a long hard road in this country to be taken seriously for their talents in non-sex related industries.
I guess what really did it for me, what made me lose total respect for Media Lizzy despite the fact she helped George “War President” Bush get elected, was her slight against Barrack Obama. Since everything is context, I heard her make those comments right after she was introduced on the Blog Talk Radio show Political Vindication. Political Vindication is a right leaning political show hosted by two men who go by Frank and Shane. I gained a little respect for Shane when he came on another Blog Talk Radio show I co-host on Saturday evenings called Radio Free Nation. Shane was a guest panelist on the show to give the “conservative” viewpoint on issues we were discussing and while passionate about his beliefs, he conducted himself in a respectful and civil manner, which he has taken some heat for from the right for daring to talk with a bunch of “liberals”. Because of this attempt to “reach across the aisle”, I was willing to excuse the fact that Shane on the Blog Talk Radio show I Got My Reasons defended Rush Limbaugh for playing a song called “Barrack The Magic Negro”. I was taken aback this night however by the black jokes being made about Barrack Obama. While trying to have a civil discussion with other chatters, I observed Flag Glazer engaged in the agitating and instigating behavior the host Ghost accused her of on his show.
Media Lizzy announced that Barrack Obama had clinched the Democratic nomination with his recent primary state win. Now what got my goat and pushed me to make my exit from the chat room is when she stated that Barack Obama is not the first Black party nominee for the Presidency. She stated that she is not buying into Reverend Wright statements about Obama and that Barrack Obama is the first “mixed race” nominee. I was in total shock but not surprised to hear her make those comments possibly not knowing a black man was in the room. The comments were wrong on so many levels. First off, historically in the United States, people were considered black if they held at least a quarter of African blood. Secondly, Barrack Obama is more of an African American than I am considering his father is literally from Kenya, Africa and his mother was a white American woman. Thirdly, her comments would suggest that she believes there to be purebred white Americans in this country, which smacks of Hitler’s theory of a master pure blood Aryan race. This is all quite nonsensical since Ms. Blackney herself stated on one of her shows that she had a DNA ancestry test done which showed that she is the descendant of Sudanese Africans. While I will not come out and state that Ms. Blackney is a racist, I found her comments to be offensive and in my opinion bigoted. I guess if your audience feeds on that kind of stuff and you have no problem producing it in exchange for their fawning adulation, go for it. I however do not seek the adulation of people so shallow.

Hey Scotty, the other point woth remembering is Blogtalk's own "terms of use". I wouldn't shed any tears for Ghost's "censorship" non-issue. A) BTR is not the government and owes Ghost nothing; and B) Ghost continues to give himself on-line anyerusims - he's still a recording host.

Well who knows what you meant when you said "we did that." There are TONS of facts including the ones I put into your show, including THIS article in which McCain himself says so: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5612836/ But why talk when you block amy TRUE comments from your site (claiming that you don't censor comments, another LIE.) Before you break a sweat saying how I was disrespectful or whatever this is exactly what I said: "It's interesting to be lectured on insults by someone who calls Barack Obama a "dirtbag." TOO RACY FOR YOUR LISTENERS? OR TOO TRUE? Write a novel this time, I'm done... you are a LIAR for your cause and as such you have earned my BOREDOM. By the way I don't put my self out as some sort of politico, that would be YOU; YOU are the one who is trying to be taken seriously as a pundit while calling the candidate a "dirtbag," then not even having the fearlessness to let people SEE that someone called you out on it. HAVE YOU MET BARACK OBAMA???? HAVE YOU??? You have ZERO credibility, and if anyone reading this thinks I am lying go listen to her show from Friday. Also note that she won't admit to being wrong about the words she put into my mouth. But that would be inconsistent and involve TELLING THE TRUTH. "Chien" means dog. I say your crappy attempt at racist humor is "genius" (medializzy.com) and you post it to your blog FAST, no problem. I say you call Barack Obama a "dirtbag" (which you absolutely DID) and suddenly you need to protect your readers. Write whatever you want, I'm sure someone will bother with your numbingly stupid rationalizations, but I'll be too busy MAKING FUN OF THEM to care. WOOF WOOF!!

I was not an employee of Bush for President in 2000, and the fact remains that the Bush team did NOT attack McCain in any way. There's no proof - and assumptions aren't facts. And if you want to attack McCain for his associations with Bush - start with Obama's benefactor and his GUILTY verdicts on 16 counts. http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/clout_st/2008/06/rezko-found-gui.html

1) Media Lizzy lied about Bush's slanderous campaign against John McCain (and on Friday's show slipped up said "we used the same tactics" re 2001 and attacking McCain's "sanity." Even Shane and Jenn say "well of course" when asked if they did this. It's common knowledge... I only metion it here because she spent half of one of her shows claiming ignorance of something "we did" as a politic of Bush. 2) She incorrectly accused me of insulting her (it was HeyTom who said the "hooker" stuff) in her chat room, the refused to take my calls about it. After going on a long lecture about insulting people, she refers to Barack Obama as a "dirtbag." I put a polite, albeit snide, reference to this on her blog... she decided not to allow her readers to see it. I'm guessing because its verifiable (also Friday's show) and TRUE. 3) Today I went into her chatroom and typed "*dancing smugly*" referring to the Obama win. I guess she took it personally cuz I was banned forever for this. Returning as Love, Larry I simply said "thanks for the new material," knowing she'd ban me again. I prefer to stick with issues, as my recent satire of her does (she's talking a blue streak about being attacked personally on her show today by people who don't "embrace Obama's values" or some similar drivel.) It wouldn't suprise me if someone this thin skinned took my satire as a personal attack, that's fine. I'd appreciate it if she'd stop continuing to LIE about things that I haven't even said. The McCain lies I will talk about on my next show. This personal stuff I find boring, but at least here i know MY POST WON'T BE DELETED!! (she's not my friend on Facebook anymore either... waaaaahhhh) DO YOU KNOW JOHN McCAIN??? DO YOU???? LOL Don't let the squares drag you down!!! OBAMA!!!

Scotty, I despair. A dispassionate listen to the Memorial Day archive will confirm that ML's show on that day was not "pro-war" as you describe. Mr Showtime attempted to politicise it, and you were waxing lyrical about your time in Saudi with some Air Force women: I'm still wondering what the point of that was with regard to Memorial Day. I'm staggered that you remain pissed off. Will you delete this comment as you did my previous? With kind regards, Kris

As another 'liberal' on BTR, I understand and completely agree with your frustrations with the more conservative hosts here. Some of them can be rude, disrespectful and outright hostile and nasty. I do not however, agree with your inclusion of Lizzy in this group. Despite the fact that I am a liberal (and some would say very liberal) person, she has always listened to what I had to say with an open mind and she has never once tried to belittle me or insult me for my point of view. In the short time that I have known her, she has been as open and honest in her dealings with me as anyone here has.. no wait, anyone anywhere has, and it with this in mind that I say.. c'mon man, she's one of the good ones.

Scotty, I am really shocked by your statements here. I did not state that Barack Obama was not African-American. What I said was that he was not "black" as in black-only. He is of mixed-race, bi-continental heritage. Which is something to acknowledge and be proud of. The archaic laws to which you refer were put in place to further racism, segregation and are the antithesis to what I believe our nation can be. I can't imagine why you would cling to those laws as a standard, when they were partially responsible for the suffering in our nation. I absolutely resent your suggestions and your assessment of me as racist. You have little to no idea about who I am, my life experiences, or the family that I come from. My family's direct involvement in ending racism - and my childhood in Atlanta, watching Andrew Young and Maynard Jackson and many other civil rights leaders work hand-in-hand on a housing project with my mother - and praise the work - and teach me about speaking honestly, embracing the truth and being unafraid to reject hate is a part of me, right down to the very marrow on my bones. My distrust of Barack Obama stems not from racism, but a concern that he chose to worship at Rev. Wright's church, and accept liberation theology - which is indeed founded on Marxist teachings - as a part of his faith. I simply do not believe that liberation theology is appropriate, and now that Senator Obama has chosen to leave Trinity United, I will reserve the right to revise my opinion depending on what he chooses to do next. Liberation theology and Marxism are hand in hand, and liberation theology is as much a political movement as it is a faith. And as a voter, I will not cast a ballot for someone who believes in Marxist teachings. Barack Obama is a great candidate, and I am so thankful for this historic moment. I have long said that I believe he is the best the Democrats had to offer (after Joe Biden who I adore) this year. While I don't agree with his politics, I recognize what a momentous occasion this is for him, for his family, for African-Americans and mixed-race Americans, and for all Americans. As a woman who has been in a very serious inter-racial relationship, I am offended by the assertion that children who are the product of such unions are forced to choose the race of one parent over another - and that it is encouraged, or necessary to be accepted by any community. As a woman who had many friends in inter-racial marriages, with children, I have watched their struggles for all of my adult life - and am heartbroken that in this moment - so many people are still unwilling to acknowledge that it is possible for an interracial couple to love each other just as much and a couple of any other description. We are all just people. I am very disappointed in you, Scotty. To the issue of Sex & Politics: I wrote a book called Sex, Lies & Politricks. I suggest you read it, I'll even send you a copy so you don't have to spend a dime on it. I attack the moral hypocrisy in both political parties with regards to sexual mores, legislation, the war on terror, the non-stop political campaigns. I have been a force for equality - and challenge readers to ask the tough questions. It is about my choice to leave political consulting because I was not willing to play the sexual games necessary to survive in electoral politics. You drew conclusions based on a couple of snippets, disregarded my history, and when it comes to Memorial Day - I will accept no judgment from you. I am a Gold Star Wife, it was Memorial Day, and I took great offense at the first caller on my show who wanted to argue about anti-war protesters instead of being respectful. One day a year is all the break a Gold Star Wife gets from the daily hate spewed at our husbands. One day a year is all a Gold Star Mother gets. One day a year. And you choose to side with people who denigrate the memories of men who served. That says much more about you, than it does about me - my show - or my listeners.
