I have been asking this question of myself as I seek to clarify a religious viewpoint I was raised to have. In debating right-wingers who call themselves "Conservative Christians" about the decades old stand off between the Israelis and the Palestinians, I have been accused of being anti-Israeli by those who can be rightly described as religious extremist. These zealots, these crusaders if you will, base their view of the conflict in the Middle East on a reading of the Old Testament of the Bible. It does not matter to them if the native people of land have been living and occupying the area perhaps thousands of years before these European transplants ever arrived. Their entire warped view is based on a religious view that God gives these transplants some sort of property rights that supersedes those of the original inhabitants.
It is the same view that was held by those early-transplanted Europeans when they first arrived to the new world. A view that portrayed the Native Americans as Godless savages who had no property rights to a land they had occupied for thousands of years before the arrival of one the biggest fraud in history, Christopher Columbus. It is the same view that was held by the Europeans who ventured to Africa claming land that did not belong to them and only sought to demonize the native people to ease their “Christian” consciousness. I supposed it is easy to commit murder, rape and theft if all you have to do is pay off priest with stolen wealth to absolve one of sins. To assuage a public outcry against such immorality, it helps to have a complicit media in painting the victims as somehow deserving of their fate. I guess it also helps when the complicit media fails to report facts and the fact is that right now 1.5 million Palestinians are being methodically starved to death by the Israelis and subjected to a U.S. instigated violent civil war between factions in the occupied terroritories.
All of this leads me to question the God of the Bible and if he truly is a just God or a God made up to justify thousands of years of aggression in his name. If indeed the Israelis are God chosen people and if he truly gave them that land to displace the original occupants, why is it that he needs the United States of America to act in his place as Israelis protector and benefactor. I mean if he could part the Red Sea, place a wall of fire in-between the fleeing Israelis of the Bible and their enemies, why does Israel need to build a wall to protect it from “terrorist”. Why doesn’t God squat those rockets lobbed into Israel out of the sky? Has God given the Israelis one of those Old Testament mandates to wipe out an entire race of people and take their lands? Does God care about that the majority of Palestinians consider themselves Christians? Does the Governments of the United States and Israel care that over two thirds of Israelis citizens believe that Hamas should be included in any peace talks?
The more I think about it all, the less I believe in the God of Bible. When it comes to those right-wing zealots incapable of independent thought, I could care less that they refuse to have an open and honest debate about these issues. I simply think it is a waste of time trying to reason with religious extremist of any kind. Well, that is my thought for the day.

Hi All these things that you bring up in your blog i deal with in my April 4th show! We shape and mold the world that we live in we are here to learn or not learn that all power is Imaginary Power when compared to the Universal Creator's power. There is a Universal Creator and who he/she/it is has been distorted by the politicised religions so that they can control the people,,,, the universal creator (god) that i know loves me as an INDIVIDUAL and wants me to live my life as an INDIVIDUAL free from any spiritually restrictive control! All The Best James. Try and listen to April 4th show.
