Jacqueline R. Fleuriscar is currently a 5th year student at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education located in New York City. Sophie Davis is a joint 7yr BS/MD program, which aims to increase the number of physicians of Black, Hispanic and other ethnic backgrounds who have been historically under-represented in the medical profession. The ultimate goal of the program is to increase the number of minority primary care physicians practicing in under-served communities. She started Sophie Davis in the fall of 2012. She will be graduating this May, in 2017 and transitioning to a cooperating medical school to complete the remaining two years of her medical education.

Being a first generation American within her family has taught her the importance of using every experience in life as an impetus to achieve what others may view as the impossible. As a triple minority being a bi-racial, Black, and Hispanic female, she considers it her duty to provide an example and inspire others to rise above all imposed stereotypes and achieve their full potential. I have been able to witness the hardships that my parents and other community members had to endure in leaving their family and everything behind to migrate to this country. Her tenacity has undoubtedly strengthened her ardor to become a physician. Despite all their trials and tribulations, these strong individuals continue to work hard to establish a concrete foundation for the future generations which she is proud to be a part of. She is confident that as an OB-GYN, she will be able to assist and care for under-served populations. She aspires to be the physician that encourages her patients to be proactive in their healthcare. She wants her patients to know that she is not only their doctor, but also their partner whose utmost priority is their well-being.
