This show will focus on how librarians and staff engages universitystudents/faculty  by using audio production projects that teaches students the basics of voice recording, using the MIDI keyboards, audio editing, multitrack recording, and more. We will also talk about music format digitization opportunities their library spaces offer to the students. Should be a great one!   "If an academic library can commit time, space, and a little money, and serves a campus community that is interested in exploring experiential learning, a makerspace and making programs can be built and can thrive. It is crucial for libraries to consider whether makerspaces are a possible fit. Given the interdisciplinary nature of most academic libraries, they remain open to the whole campus community. It can be argued that they are the best place to have a makerspace on campus"   Burke, J. (2015, April 1). ACRL 2015 Proceedings. The two units raised funds to expand the university’s multimedia literacy services, the Digital Media Commons and the Digital ACT Studio. The renovations created free-standing consultation space for the Digital ACT Studio, and added three enhanced maker spaces in the Digital Media Commons; one for 3D and electronics making, one for video making, and another for gaming. The project took a year to complete, from planning to finish. The Department Heads of both the DMC and DACTS worked closely with university administrators, designers, contractors, and our facilities department to bring the project to a successful end by fall 2015.  00:31:00OKelly LibrarynoArmondo Collins,Forrest Foster,Learning Spaces,Digital Media Commons,EducationThis episode we will talk with Armondo Collins, Digital Media Commons, Head, about the transformation and renovation of the Digital Media CommonsLibrary Spaces Matter..Guest Carla Hayden, CEO of Enoch Pratt Free Libraryhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/okellylibraryradio/2015/08/17/library-spaces-matterguest-carla-hayden-ceo-of-enoch-pratt-free-libraryEducationhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/okellylibraryradio/2015/08/17/library-spaces-matterguest-carla-hayden-ceo-of-enoch-pratt-free-library/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/okellylibraryradio/2015/08/17/library-spaces-matterguest-carla-hayden-ceo-of-enoch-pratt-free-libraryMon, 17 Aug 2015 15:00:00 GMTLibrary Spaces Matter..Guest Carla Hayden, CEO of Enoch Pratt Free LibraryOur guest, Dr. Carla Hayden, will talk about how The Baltimore Public Library System was a  pillar and a fixture of and for the community. The library system displayed how libraries still remain relevant in an age where "some" people's perception of the library denotes a fade to black, whereas others are witnessing and experiencing a palpable change in resurgence.  Dr. Hayden will share and elaborate on her library spaces and  specifically, the  "Pennsylvania Branch" on how this particular branch played a major role in the protests and demonstrations of Baltimore. Known as a staunch advocate for international library cooperation, his ability to share information in a bilingual environment has made Seal a strong advocate for breaking down barriers and extending partnerships between libraries in the U.S. and Latin America. In addition, Seal is recognized both as a strong, visionary leader and as a caring mentor to new and experienced academic librarians. Having led libraries at a number of institutions, he is widely known for his commitment to hiring and developing innovative staff along with recognizing their contributions to the library and campus communities. Seal’s focus on developing human, along with physical, resources has earned him a reputation for re-envisioning the academic library. One of Seal’s major accomplishments is the planning and construction of the LEAF award-winning Loyola University Klarchek information Common.  Under Seal’s leadership and commitment to community engagement, the Klarchek Information Commons has placed the library at the heart of Loyola’s campus life and serves as an inspiration for similar projects at other institutions in Chicago and beyond. In this (prerecorded) episode, host Forrest Foster will be discussing his research on the scheduled topic. Link to published article on topic -  lnkd.in/d_s66ib   In our field of librarianship, we have a tendency to focus on information literacy more often, in the higher ed classroom and only exemplifying these skills by demonstrations of research papers and databases.  Rarely do we bring real life application to the forefront by using other methodologies and exercises. Being able to expose information (digital) literacy skills that are prevalent in occupations, especially, in occupations that many would never envision information or digital skills to be embedded in would heighten our awareness about information literacy and it would engage students as well.We are no longer just learning and teaching about hip-hop for leisure & historical purposes. We are now demonstrating how certain aspects of hip-hop can be tied to digital and information literacy skills- (learning outcomes) that can be measured and assessed. Everything we do must be tied to a measurable outcome to have a major role or relevancy to the curriculum and university.    Youtube video on topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fH1KCeWgNtY    &  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ocuf61Q44Jk  More copyright clearance info on sampling: http://tinyurl.com/757yvw7   00:18:00OKelly LibrarynoForrest Foster,Learning Spaces,Research,Instruction,Hip-HopExposingDigital Literacy Skills within Hip-Hop Music Sampling: Connect-the-Learning!
