Today, August 11, is the unoffical birthday of hip hop. To help celebrate the 40th anniversary of the birth of what has become a worldwide cultural phenomenon and a part of Americana, the New York City Parks Foundation has incorporated hip hop into their free summer concert series.
Saturday and Sunday were dedicated to DJ Kool Herc, the "Godfather of hip hop" whose Bronx parties are universally recognized as the social catalyst to the evolution of the music and culture.
We'll recap the two events, and ask, with pride:
What does 40 years of hip hop mean to you.
Call us up.
