During the first year of President Obama's administration, the Department of Education, led by Secretary Arne Duncan, embarked on a "listening tour" of America to surface ideas about education and reform. But many educators have argued that teachers' voices are insufficiently present in discussion about education, and that teachers need to strategize to bring teaching and learning back into the center of policy. Join us as we hear from Kelsey Krausen, who is with NWP's Public Affairs, about NWP's advocacy efforts. We'll also meet with three educators from the Teachers' Letters to Obama Facebook group who mounted a campaign that culminated in a discussion with Secretary Duncan and has led to a summer's worth of activities for discussing policy issues as educators.
