Last week Harvard Business Review published 13 megatrends in global healthcare naming medical tourism as megatrend #12, predicting "the allure of good care at much lower prices will cause increasing numbers of people to go abroad for cheaper treatment."

How those patients will choose a hospital is another story.   The US places 37th on the WHO rankings; Leapfrog Group recently released a hospital quality report that graded the venerable Cleveland Clinic an F!
What hospital quality data are reliable?  Who do consumers turn to to identify quality hospitals and specialists?

Turns out that discerning healthcare shoppers will owe a vote of thanks to Companion Global Healthcare, which is applying US standards to identify the highest quality destination  healthcare alternatives for its member benefit programs.

The best news - this 20+ "global PPO" is open to everyone, not just insured/members - so expect  more US patients to avail themselves of this "international PPO", and others like it.
