NorthStar Preparedness Network Show at a New Day & Time

The NorthStar Preparedness Network Show will be moving to Sundays at 10am PST.

We've decided to make this move because of our recent move.

We have moved to a homestead area and have been getting more and more animals - just in the past couple weeks we've aquired 3 goats, 6 turkeys, 6 chickens and a rooster. We will have 100 chicks coming soon, weiner pigs, sheep and cows.

Our goats are Nubians. The buck has his horns which has proven to be somewhat disconcerting. He knows how to use them and while he's playful he's a little too strong. The lovely Miss Pumpkin will be his new love interest. She's a rescue who has already had 2 sets of twins so we're hoping for more babies for both milk & food. The new wetherling is unyet named. He's a little guy and cute as can be. My daughter called him Jeff but that name is NOT going to stick. LOL

We had 8 turkeys and have lost two to some odd illness. We have 3 hens and 3 toms. That's not how we chose them but that's what we ended up with. As pullets they're notoriously hard to sex. That just means we'll have two toms to eat as soon as they're larger.

The six hens are 2-Barred Rocks, 2-Rhode Island Reds and 2-Wyandotts (one gold & one silver). The rooster is a HUGE Rhode Island Red, also a rescue.

There is a great place near us in Olympia called Lattin's Cider Mill which is where we get our poultry from. $6 for pullets - can't beat that. The goats are a great deal and we met a farmer there who will sell us the pigs for $35 each and the calves for $95 each.

The gardens is going strong. The heirloom tomatoes are growing like wildfire and the potatos need some bulking up with compost and dirt so that I'll get even more. I'm plotting out the fall garden now. That's one thing I really love about the region we're in and that's the mild winters for year round gardening of some veggies.

So we'll see you tomorrow, Sunday, July 19th at 10am PST.
