THIS MORNING NORTH FLORIDA WRITER LIVE HONORS THE HEROICS AND BRAVERY OF THOSE YOUNG MEN WHO STORMED THE BEACHES OF NORMANDY 71 YEARS AGO.  AMERICA DOESN'T REMEMBER IT LIKE SHE SHOULD AND MOST OF THOSE STILL ALIVE ARE EITHER INFIRM OR IN THE TWILIGHT OF THE YEARS, BUT TODAY REPRESENTS THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE EVIL THAT WAS THE THIRD REICH.

OVER 156,000 AMERICAN, CANADIAN AND BRITISH FORCES WERE DELIVERED TO THE BEACHHEAD FOLLOWING AN EAR SPLITTING BOMBARDMENT BY OUR BIG GUNS.  PARATROOPERS HAD BEEN DROPPED BEHIND ENEMY LINES TO KNOCK OUT THE BIG GERMAN HOWITZERS WHICH WERE DESIGNED TO PULVERIZE THOSE ON THE BEACH.  IT IS ESTIMATED THAT 4,000 ALLIED FORCES DIED, NONE UNDER MORE DURESS THAN THE AMERICANS AT OMAHA BEACH, BUT IN THE END THE GAMBLE PAID OFF AND BY JUNE 11TH THE NORMANDY BEACH AREA WAS SECURED AND 326,000 SERVICEMEN, 50,000 VEHICLES AND OVER 100,000 TONS OF EQUIPMENT WERE ASHORE AND READY TO MOVE ONWARD TOWARD GERMANY.

BY LATE AUGUST THE ENTIRE NORTH OF FRANCE HAD BEEN FREED, INCLUDING PARIS AND THE PUSH TOWARD DEUTSCHLAND WAS FULL STEAM.

I HOPE YOU WILL JOIN ME FOR A SHORT TRIBUTE WITH A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE MILITARY OPERATIONS IN AMERICAN HISTORY AND THE MEN WHO MADE IT POSSIBLE. GOD BLESS THEM AND GOD BLESS AMERICA.
